View Full Version : Pin Protrusion

I just picked up a used P45 at a pawn shop and I have noticed on the left side of the gun, under the trigger pin, just to the side of the trigger, a small pin poking down through the frame. It looks like it's coming straight down from the trigger pin. I never noticed this on my PM9, so I checked and it is there on the 9 but doesn't protrude past the plastic.
The one on the P45 sticks out enough that it is uncomfortable while pulling the trigger. I'm right-handed so the tip of my finger rubs past this small pin every time I pull the trigger. Is it safe to file or hit it with the dremmel lightly to make it more flush with the plastic?

Hopefully, the forum gunsmiths will chime in here, but I would say get a punch and push it back in, rather than filing it down.

That pin is meant to keep the trigger pivot pin from backing out of the frame on the polymer Kahrs. It fits into a groove on the left side of the trigger pivot pin.
Some pistols have two of these pins, as you can see in this picture of my P380. The second one was added because the first one wasn't located correctly and did not sit deep enough in the groove in the trigger pivot pin.
As suggested before, tap it back in until it's flush with the frame.

Thanks for the wise advice guys. I will do that. I think the reason I didn't think of that is because I'm a machinist by trade and I usually just mill stuff to make it the way I want it. My world is all about removing material. Sometimes it's wise to get the advice of a carpenter...

It worked. I was able to tap in the small pin. Now it doesn't scrape my finger when pulling the trigger. Thanks for the advice everyone.

if it creeps back out a tad again put a drop of super glue on it and then drive it back up. It has happened before on others and it is not an issue. Never seen one ever fall out either. It is amazing though how that pin being in their so snug can actually move out, but that tells me also that the trigger pin is actualy trying to move also when the trigger is pulled etc, again u would think not but I bet it does..

Another thing I just noticed. There is not a hex screw holding on the side plate on the ejection port side of the frame. It has no marks on it, like it's a pin instead of a screw. Anyone had that before?

It's an early gun prior to the addition of the hex screw. Not worries.

the pin is even better, as it goes all the way through the frame, it won't work out and no threads to fokk up either. Also just leave that area along. no real need to pop that plate off, if the gun is doing well but if needed, juswt find a very small punch tht size of the pin that sticks flush with the left side of the grip and tap it back and then just pull it out. Bot of my PM9 have the pin and my P380 has the pin also. Some might call that progress, I just callit "whatever".
