Anyone know if Kahr has any plans to release a budget friedly .380 as in the CM series? I'm thinking about a .380 to back up my CM9, but $500+ for the P380 is a bit more than I'd like to spend.

As much trouble as the P380 has been, I'd be leery of buying a CM380, The trouble reports have slowed quite a bit lately, so maybe they got the problem figured out on the P380, I'd still be hesitant to buy a CM380, I'd sure let a few others be the guinea pig on that model.

the cm9 has been extremely successful, as the cm40 has also. I don't see kahr dong a cm380 but it should act no different IMO.. I would not want serial #1, no more than serial #1 of the PM series when they came outta the closet..

I think the next new model we will see is the CM45.
I got so leary of the P380 with all of the problems (and a few more being posted lately), especially at that price, that I decided to shop around. Here are my conclusions:
KelTec P3AT - not a good trigger, not pleasant to shoot, no slide stop.
Ruger LCP - not pleasant to shoot and, though it has a slide stop, it doesn't lock back on last round.
Taurus TCP - the winner! :D Light, smooth trigger, more pleasant to shoot than the other 2 for some reason, very compact slide stop that locks back on last round. Also, very thin with a slide stop that only adds 1/8", comfortable to grip and naturally pointable, good quality and a lifetime warranty. I got the Plain Jane version from Bud's for $191, picked up a couple more of the high quality mags, and had my gunsmith polish the feed ramp, clean it, lube it and test fire it, for which he charged me just $30. It is now in use as my BUG with Hornady CD bullets in it. I am delighted with my modest investment and I don't have the P380 fever anymore.

I'm betting that in the near future that the .380 will return to it's former place in obscurity.... where I personally think it belongs. Each time a new "wonder nine" hits the market, there's less and less reason for the manufacturers to feel the need to scale down for another .380 model.
If I felt the "need" for a backup for my CM9, I'd just get another CM9.

I don't know about that. Everyone I know, including LEOs own and carry .380's.

Why would you carry a TCP when you have a CM9? They are virtually the same size.

I had a DB380 but ditched it for an LCP 380 and ditched it for the CM9. Now... because of that sweet shooter I am getting the itch for the P380. I can pocket carry the CM9 but to me, its borderline and I think the P380 would go in any pocket anytime. The darn things are expensive though. A CM380 would be very cool. Do it Kahr!

No, they're not. The TCP is much smaller, very much thinner and about half the weight of the CM9, both loaded. I mostly use the TCP as a BUG (Back Up Gun) to my CM9 or my J-frame. But at other times I carry just the TCP, which carries much better in my pocket and in a couple of special hiding places only it will fit in.

length 5.25"/5.42"
weight 10.2 oz/14oz
width .87"/.90"
height 3.78"/4.0"
I just don't see it but I haven't held them both, so ok.

When you hold them or pocket them, you see a big difference. The width factor is bigger than that because the Kahr has a slide stop lever that is over an inch long and sticks out pretty far, while the TCP has a very small one that barely sticks out at all. Also, the TCP slide and frame are tapered near the front, whereas the CM9 is very rectangular. The trigger guard is angled and there is a rounded taper on the back of the slide, where again the CM9 is very squared off. And the grip, while longer from front to back, is noticeably thinner on the TCP. Really quite a compact package.
Plus, I have a secret hiding place for my little BUG that only Bawanna and jocko know about, and it enables me to carry completely concealed 100% of the time without having to think about it or dress for it. When I want to, I can clip my PJ holster on and carry my CM9 behind my hip, or I can insert my J-frame in it's Stays-Put Ultra holster AIWB, with a loose shirt to cover. So I am good to go! :D :59:

Tinman, you did see the news article some time back about an inmate (with a murder warrant) smuggling a pistol very near to that into the jail didn't you?

Worst part there is that I had originally thought it was out of GA, but now see that it was Onlsow County NC, which just happens to have MCB Camp Lejeune, so yeah, I've been there.

For all weather carry, 9mm is about as small as I want to go. I suppose .380 would be fine for summer when all it has to penetrate is layer of shirt. I think I'd carry it with Buffalo Bore +P ammo if the gun was rated +P. I suppose it would make a good bug, better than a .32. The .380 has some loads with similiar ballistics to some .38 special standard loads, MUCH better than throwing rocks.

I have been carrying my P380 ever since it got hot this year (April!?!?). I love the lil gun, great shooter and rides in a Nemisis pocket holster just fine.
Won't argue about the cost though. I went to our local gun show for mine. I paid for parking, admission, a night sighted P380, pearce grip extenders, 250 rounds of break in ammo and 75 rounds of SD ammo.
All that was $830 bucks... and every bit I bought fit in a shoe box.
Love the great night sights and that Kahr trigger so I feel I got a deal. It's alot easier to carry than my 1911 while wearing cargo shorts and a tucked in Tee.

I really like my P380 & it has never missed a lick, but I only carry it as a bug to my PM9. Shooting standing tree swinging steel targets, it is way less impressive compared to the 9 mm. The .380 would not swing the targets, while the 9mm sent them swinging around 180º.
