I have been trying to get some help with a password problem for days!! My username is/was "kenk". I forgot my password and at least 4-5 times I've clicked the link to reset my password.....it says it has sent an email but I never receive one.

Since I can't log in to my account, I can't send an email to the administrator for help. The only way I'm able to do that is to create a new account "ken_in_austin"......and that needed to have a different email address than my original account.

Doesn't anyone perform administrative duties on this forum?????

I'm just the custodian around here. I know the boss is wicked busy right now but I will make sure he is aware of your issue and try to have him put things right with the world.

Please be patient and we'll see if we can get r dun.

So would you really like to be kenk again if he can make that happen?

This is a great opportunity, you can be anybody you want.

Can I be Jocko if I want? Not that I would necessarily want to, but could I if I want?

Thanks. Yes, I would like to be kenk again since I have a posting history under that username.

On the other hand there is also a new "Ken_K" on the forum, so the ken_in_austin would be OK if I don't have to start the posting counter over again. Some time back I wanted to upload some pictures but couldn't because I didn't have enough postings.

I stumbled on to kenkg but that was the only one close, also down in Texas.

We'll go for kenk if possible. My highly respected leader can fix the post count. He can work all kinds of magic that makes us mere mortals envious.

Tinman, this is a kenk special deal only, kind of a once in a lifetime thing, so you can't be Jocko. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
If you find yourself curled up on the kitchen floor sucking your thumb over this let me know and I'll see if he can send you some horse parts to help get your mind right. OK?

I did an advanced search for all posts by kenk and found exactly 30 posts.

That's what I got, enough to post pictures and such.

I'd say your earthlink.net email is filtering out the emails as spam or something....I'd double check there first, as I have not heard of any issues with our forgotten password emails not working.

As far as any doing administrative duties on this forum, what you're talking about is an automated process, no humans involved....so I'm not sure why you're complaining we're not doing anything. You were last logged in August 12th, so it wasn't that long ago. Did you verify you typed in your email you registered under, again it is an earthlink.net email address. Did you answer the random question correctly? Finally, did you once again check the spam settings/add kahrtalk/check junk mail folder for the reset password emails?

I told you them other guys were wicked smart. I got brought on under the no humans involved category.

Good suggestion. I did check the SPAM folder on my earthlink.net account and I did not find any emails from kahrtalk about resetting my password. So I believe that function on kahrtalk does not work properly. I did find two emails about my new account called ken_in_austin....but I know that I got both of them in my inbox, so I don't know why they were also in the SPAM ?????

My original posting was the result of a lot of frustration. Most other forums I am on now or have been always got an administrator to respond within a day. In fact I'm an administrator on several other forums I subscribe to.

There's a local gun forum I tried to get on, and never even managed to get my account activated, despite sending private messages to a couple of guys listed as mods.

I've had good responses from the KahrTalk admins the couple of times I had issues. It took a couple of days to get a response, but my issues did get handled.

With the other Ken(s) around, it sounds to me like you'd be best served by starting over, choosing a more creative 'nym, and surfing around the forum starting yourself a new post history. If you only had 30 posts previously, you're not losing much. You should be able to find 30 messages worth replying to easily on this forum, and then you'll be back in the running.

I have known ISPs to filter out legitimate mail as spam on their servers, and they never get to your spam folder, nor is there any communication about the deletions. Probably an anti-gun webmaster at Earthlink. Some of them have zero customer service skills and a very low regard for the paying customers.

We are actually having another issue with a new user who isn't getting his new user confirmation email....also an earthlink.net email address. Something is telling me earthlink is filtering these somewhere as I know a lot of people have registered without a problem (including you, but your new address is gmail) and get the password reset email. I tested it myself the other night and it worked fine for me, but it was to a gmail account...

You'd have to learn to spell bad and give up posting all the funny pictures although you could have a much more colorful vocabulary. :behindsofa:

Actually Jocko spells very well, he won first place at the Indiana University 172nd annual spelling bee. Won with ease when the last competitor forgot there are two K's in fokker.

It's just that his brain and his fingers don't have a very good relationship.

I've heard he's considering help from Dr. Phil on this matter but that's only a rumor at this time.

Actually, voice recognition software is getting very good. If Jocko installed that, then all he'd have to mind is his pronunciation! LOL!

Yes, it is spam filtering. The major firewall/filter services are starting to flag all sites that send automated confirmation emails in any significant quantity as spam. I have had to request us be unblocked from a couple of them. I appreciate what they are trying to do, but they are making it very hard for the little guys to run sites that do any sort of automated registration verification. Definitely watch spam folders, but in many cases the emails are blocked before they ever hit your inbox.

Also, I apologize for being slow to respond. I am a school administrator in my real job and school just started. I am basically doing work, dinner, play with kids, bed every day. It should slow down next week (fingers crossed).

No apology needed, John. Those of us that know appreciate what you do to make this forum a home online for us. :yo:

The one I identified was actually a firewall vendor with spam filtering offered to customers. They black listed us, so that meant all subscribing mail providers did. I gather that is becoming a common issue for online services like ours. If you send bulk messages for any reason, some service flags you as spam, so the subscribing mail providers kill your mail before it ever gets to the end user mail box. It depends on how they handle processing spam. In my case it produced a bounce back to my Kahrtalk mail so I was able to locate the offending service.

What gets me is the arrogance of these people. I formerly lived in Atlanta and was subscribed to morning and evening email weather updates from the largest and oldest TV station in the area. They stopped showing up and weren't appearing in my spam folder, so I contacted Comcast about it. I even gave them the source ISP address. They informed me that they don't respond to requests from customers regarding deleted messages, that I should get the TV station's webmaster to contact them and try to convince them it isn't spam! :der: Jerks! :31:

No apology needed John. Some of us retirees realize that others do have real jobs :-)

BTW John, would it be possible to bump up the posting counter on my "new" account to reflect my previous postings? I may want to put some items up for sale and it would be nice to include pictures.

Thanks,
Ken

ken_in_austin -- you could just start offering opinions on ALL NEW THREADS. That would bump up your post count in a HURRY! :p

BTW, howdy from an Austinite being held against his will in NC!

Since you're there, you may be interested in supporting an online business based in Austin, too -- www.JABTAC.com. Their latest version of their website kinda stinks but the customer service is amazing and they allow local pickups of merchandise.
