Been looking for a back-up /pocket .380. Somthing to carry when for whatever reason I can't carry my CM9. Well I was talking with a friend about .380's and was offered a SIG P238 for a good price. $400.00. Since it is the same size as the CM9 (for practical purposes) it dosen't completely fill the role I was was looking for. Taurus TCP or S&W BG380 would work better. But gotta admit, I really like it. Would I be a fool to pass on this? Thoughts and opinions please.

If you like s/a, as I do, and are good with .380, snap it up. Excellent, well made gun.

I picked up the Kahr P380 over the Sig P238, but the gunshow dealer I bought from had both. I was able to do a very side by side compairing and the price differance was $20 between the two. I finally chose the P380 as the ergo was best for me and the striker fired gun seemed safer in a pocket carry mode. No safety to get "swept off" while swishing around in the pocket. Holster choice will be more important in the Sig but thats not a huge deal. That is a great price on the little gun about $160/$180 off new price. You won't get bitten at that price. Good luck.

I keep looking at the 9mm version (P938).
I've got no SAO guns and just can't warm up to carrying one.
My S&W 342 DAO 38, at 11.1/13.5 empty/loaded,
continues to be my bombproof pocket pistol.

I was raised with S/As. P938 will be my next carry gun if it lives up to it's promise....replacing my PM9

I have 2 p238's. The Equinox is my favorite with the fiber-optic sight plus the looks IMO can't be beat by any 380. As for the safety being swept off not likely. If you notice even when cocked & locked there is nothing that will snag. Mine go bang every time. The p380 seems to have various problems.

Just bought a HK P30 40 LEM myself.
Those kooky Germans make some fine handguns.

I had one and did not like the SINGLE action factor for pocket gun. I would go a P3AT Kel Tec over P238 for that reason. Kel Tec's are cheap guns but all the issues are long gone. I am not fan of 380; for me it is either my PM40 or Shield 40.

The SA trigger pull on the 238 is 7.5-8.5 lb. So even with the safety off, it's going to take some effort to fire the gun. Just saying...

Not really. It's a short s/a trigger, and crisp when cleaned up. About at the high end of where I keep my custom carry 1911s.
