The difference in velocity is due to the difference in barrel length. Kahr 3.0". Sig 3.9". So what's your point?

For what reason? Why is it important? What are you going to do with the information? Curious minds want to know.

Perhaps to point out the loss is not that much. A lot of people think dropping to such a short barrel really costs you velocity. My gunsmith did a similar test when the MK series first came out, to make the point that the bullets were still traveling plenty fast to expand reliably. Lots of "experts" were advising people not to use short barreled 9mm pistols because the "massive" drop in velocity would make them no more effective than using FMJ ammo due to lack of expansion.

It was interesting to me because I have a mk9. Is there a point to the stats in profiles or little home made quotes or sayings after every reply by some members?

It is kind of interesting that the +P Short Barrel stuff obtains less velocity that the non SB +P variety in BOTH weapons.
And that the percentage loss is the least for the 147gr load.

Thanks for the info.
Being somewhat of a "chrono junkie" myself, I appreciate when someone takes the times to run the rounds and put the data out there.
Your results for the Speer 124 gr. +P SB load in the MK9 are very close to mine in my PM9.

Like reading any Ballistic data that an individual takes the time to test & post when it's a round I use. Meaningful data to me, as I have a G26 with a barrel length about 3.46", approximately halfway in between the given gun barrel lengths. By doing the simple math, I can estimate the ballistic data to expect for these rounds if used in said G26. Thx Barth, much appreciated. :)

No problemo.

thanks for info. while your not doing anything why don't you shoot all the popular brands so we know which one does the best in our 3" barrells. thanking you in advance

The Kahr PM9 was test-fired with 13 different versions of factory 9mm ammunition.
Loads were chronographed with the temperature at 35 degrees.
Chronograph screens set at 10’ from muzzle.

Stupid question: would the octagonal rifling possibly affect these calculations for a Glock? I know the PM9 has polygonal rifiling, but just didn't know if the type of rifling made much of a difference when using a chrono, especially in a short barreled pistol.

I know Polygonal is preferred by some ballistic experts. I found this after searching for a reasonable explanation, which answers your question better than I could ever do. I really don't think the type of barreling will have any significant difference in velocity with a 3" or 3.46" barrel. I, for one, would not care which type of barrel I was using. Hope this helps. :)
A number of advantages are claimed by the supporters of polygonal rifling. These include:
Not compromising the barrel's thickness in the area of each groove as with traditional rifling.
Providing a better gas seal around the projectile as polygonal bores tend to have a slightly smaller bore area, which translates into more efficient use of the combustion gases trapped behind the bullet, slightly greater (consistency in) muzzle velocities and slightly increased accuracy.
Less bullet deformation, resulting in reduced drag on the bullet when traveling through the barrel which helps to increase muzzle velocity.
Reduced buildup of copper or lead within the barrel which results in easier maintenance characteristics.
Prolonged barrel life.

+1, I like the data also. Thx for this comparison on the 124 +P Gold Dot with different weapons. This is one of my favorite G26 SD Carry rounds. Much appreciated. :)
