I suspect your wife would not like the bang of the 40 much if she did shoot it, but an inner tube or Kwik Grip over the grip area tames the rough texture down quite nicely.

Not trying to talk you out of selling, just offering an option if she is otherwise pleased with it.

I stippled the grip on PM45 as it was too aggressive as well, ran a tube and a Hogue slip on for awhile and finally broke out the wood burner and stippled it. Works well.
