Had coffee with him this morning.
He turns 91 in November.
Says he got this one when he was 12 and could strike a kitchen match with it.
Who am I to doubt my dad? He was piloting a B-17 at age 24.

Sweet. A family heirloom for sure. I have one similar. Can't recall the model off the top of my head but looks the same.
It's a 22 jfootin, doc will have to fill in the rest. Very nice........

At least your pops could hit the pickle barrel with that .22! :D
My dad was a top turret gunner on a B-24. Total studs!

I think I was 6 or 7 when I first shot it.
And feeling the recoil and hearing that CRACK! was a thrill I'll never forget.
Up until then it had been only a Daisy Red Ryder.

Some of those old 22 bolt action rifles were pretty darned accurate even by todays standards reguardless of there age. I have an old Marlin (1952 pre micro groove ) DL 81 that is probably more accurate then my year old Ruger 10/22 at 100+yds.

I had an old Marlin single shot rifle my Dad gave me when I was a youth. I can't remember what happened to it. :001_huh:

Guns from Dad are the best that one could ever have.
My dad is gone, but I shot both of his guns as a kid, and am privileged to have both of them today as a reminder of him:
- Colt 1903 pocket hammerless .32ACP
- Remington 12c .22 take-down pump rifle with octagon barrel
Here's the Colt, which was made in 1923 and has a Colt letter indicating that it was delivered to Von Lengerke and Antoine, which was Chicago's premier sporting goods dealer at the time, and which was frequented by members of Al Capone's gang because it was in their territory. Al Capone also moved to Chicago the same year, and was known to carry a Colt 1903. (It was the ideal pocket carry gun back then, slim with no exposed hammer, similar in concept to today's Kahrs although of a different design since it actually does have a hammer.) I have no idea how my dad acquired this gun some years later, but who knows, maybe Al sold his before he went to prison and my dad bought it on one of his trips to Chicago. We will never know.

Cool Colt!
We're arranged that I get what guns he has left including his old Daisy Model 40 like this.
And it still shoots hard!

My Dad is still around. Coast Guard during Korea. He wants to give me his guns now, but I want him to have them in the house just in case.
Nothing quite as spectacular the as the Colt above, but all cool nonetheless.
Can still remember going shooting at the local range during the football games (Dad never was into watching sports, or crowds).
Have my FIL's Colt Detective Special that I'm holding for my BIL. His wife is against guns. FIL was a Pa. State Trooper and bought the Detective Special in the basement of the Academy as his off duty gun. Told me he qualified with it once, and never shot it again. It has exactly 12 rounds through it!!

That's a darn nice Colt. Don't see em that nice too often.
Here's hoping your BIL forgets you have it and you don't have to give it back. That would be a tough one for me.
I had an early Colt Agent, got stolen in a burg back in 80 or so. I replaced it with a Colt Cobra which I still have. Great shooter relegated mostly to the safe but still much loved and cherished.

Never seen one like that before. What a cool thing! I'm sure they'd never allow the good kids with good parents to have something like that now days.
Is it in pretty good shape wood wise and stuff too? There should have been a commandment that said Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors guns. Wife's no problem, not my type.

Yessir, the wood's in good shape and the metal has a nice green/brown patina.
It doesn't have the sling or the bayonet. Bayonets are very rare and expensive now. It was the first thing moms threw away.
I found a shot tube for it years ago, loaded it with a string of BB's, and it shot hard.
When I was five or six I barely had the strength to cock it.
