Deer season will be here before you know it, and this year, I am wanting to swap out the tupperware stock on my 110 for something else. I do like how light it is, and the Savage P.A.D. on the buttstock brings the recoil down below .243 levels. I do not like how the stock is flexible enough to touch the floating barrel if you get a good squeeze on it.

I am looking for a replacement stock that is somewhat lightweight and durable. I've loooked a lot a Boyds, Bell & Carsons, etc. I am not wanting a tactical-type stock. I guess a little more traditional. And affordable. :)
I like the look and price of Boyds laminate in pepper. That would be a good camo for hunting in the southeast during winter.

Anybody use Boyds? Any other recommendations?

My rig has a Nikon Monarch 3-9x40, Weaver bases, Leupold rings. This rifle is scary accurate, and one of my favorite shooters. The accutriggers take these rifles to another level.

I've done several Boyd's stocks. I too like the laminates. They are slightly heavy but not overly so.
I've only bought unfinished versions but they were still nicely shaped and relatively smooth. Kind of fun projects.
The drop in models pretty much dropped in without a bunch of fitting.

At 90 bucks I don't think a person can go wrong. Very nice looking.

I've never seen their finished stocks so not sure how those look.

Thanks Bawanna. I am glad you chimed in on this.

I am thinking the classic style stock as in the link I provided in pepper laminate with this (http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/ENGRAVED-CLA-STIP-PAT-2-p/120-037.htm?CartID=3) stippling. I think on this particular gray stock, stippling might look better than checkering. What do you think?

I like it. I prefer the classic style especially on hunting type rifles myself. The stippling which I did not know they offered looks great in the picture.

Laminate can be tough to checker as your dealing with different woods, some soft, some harder. It can be done.

I suspect the stippling will give a good grip surface and will hold up perhaps better than checkering, although if your like me you sacrifice your body before you let your rifle bang into anything. I ended up on my back in a dry rocky creek bottom once but my rifle was held at arms length above me. I was badly abused but the rifle didn't get a single scratch.

I assume with the stippling that the stock is all finished, just drop in and go sight in for hunting?

I may have to see about a laminate for my 17HMR Savage. I love it but I ain't into tupperware stocks either.

Boyd's has a great reputation on their stuff. Those laminates are sharp!

Yes, these are finished stocks. I was back and forthing between the pepper and the wooldland camo, which has some reddish coloration in it. Either would blend in here in the southeast most anytime of the year. I think the stippling would look better on the pepper.

Here's some 17HMR's with Boyd stocks:

And yes, I have done that with a rifle as well! Also with adult beverages. Not a spill! :D

I agree. I think I am ordering tomorrow. The wife is going to kill me.

:) Well, I went ahead and ordered the Classic laminated stock in pepper with the stippling. I think it will look really good on this rifle. The longer bolts needed for synth to wood conversion were out of stock, so IDK when the thing will ship. I will post pics when I get it dressed up.

Well the stock came into today, and I am HIGHLY impressed! Barrel still floating, perfect fit, no sanding or other issues. The stippling is wonderful. And it is not that heavy at all.

Here's a few quickie cell phone pics.

If anyone is thinking about upgrading their rifle stock, I am definitley recommending Boyd's as they are very affordable and do great work. Now to the range!

If you can keep all of your shots in an 18" circle at one hundred yards, don't worry about your stock. If you can't, spend the money you would have spent on a stock on ammo to practice with. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Wow! What a wonderful transformation. Looks so much nicer. Skookum too, I see to cross bolts for stock strength.

Laminate is tough and less sensitive to moisture and stuff. Nearly as good as tupperware and probably better than some of the cheaper tupperwares out there.

I think it looks awesome. It'll shoot, I can feel it in my bones.

The majority of this purchase was based on looks and feel, and both just increased 300%. The preferable kill zone on a whitetail deer is typically an 8-10" circle. I may be a fool, but let's just say I can keep my shots in a 1" circle at 100 yds all day long ;)

Thanks Bawanna. They did a great job. Since I replaced the rings to Leupold and replaced the stock, I will be zeroing it in again this weekend.
