Dont now how I still have power the eye should pass right over us in the next 6 hours or so. I'm right outside Baton Rouge about an hour from New Orleans.
I know this is a gun site so I've got my guns loaded and ready in case I need them in the aftermath.
4 years ago Gustav ripped us a new one and I didn't have any guns at that time. The aftemath was a little scary and I remember thinking then I really should have a gun at a time like that. No power for 4 days.
I bought one, then two, then 3 and working on my next one.
Once I got started I can't stop!
No damage yet....say a little prayer we make it through OK.
Trees around my house is my biggest worry.

I'm in Tampa.
We had some rain but no problemo.

Hope you and yours get through it alright.

I've been in the eye before.
It's spooky.
Everything gets real calm and quiet.
And then it all starts up again.
The kicker is the wind reverses direction.
So all the trees pushed one way get pushed the other.
Really uproots stuff.
Car right beside mine got smashed by a tree that went down.

Good Luck!

Where do you live? I'm out in French Settlement and we lost power about 9:15 this morning. Running the generator at the moment for internet and to watch the news to keep up on the storm.

So far nothing too bad. Constant rain since yesterday starting around 7pm or so, wind hasn't been terrible. Constant around 30-35mph with gusts of up to 60mph or so I'd guess. With the ground already being saturated the water has been coming up. The front part of the property is already under water and working its way toward the house. Have only seen it get close to the house one time and that was back in the early '80s.

Bad thing about this storm is it is moving SLOW with LOTS of rain, plus it'll be passing to the south of us. They are talking about another 18-24 hours until things calm down.

I don't thing I'll be going to work tomorrow...lol

Good luck to you.

this was such a big whoopty doo....this huricane wasnt much more than a long winded thunder storm.....

not saying folks shouldnt prepare, but when its pegged as a cat one and at the low end of that it hardly anything for folks on the coast to deal with. its not like folks in huricane areas dont already know what to do for the run of the mill huricane....

now, something like that blowing through Yuma Az....i can see the reason folks would panic.

I grew up in the Mojave desert.
70 mph wind gusts and sand blasting was a summer afternoon breeze.
The kicker was heavy rain would cause flash floods.
Raging rivers would spring out of nowhere.
Washing out roads and washing away the cars on them.

Everything really is relative.

Even though it wasn't much of a storm and nothing like Katrina it was enough to jack the price of gasoline up 35 cents a gallon in Atlanta...Paid $4.19 a gal for premium yesterday...Never waste any reason to gouge gas prices...

Gas prices jumped .40 a gallon in Cleveland. $3.95 a gallon for regular. We have our own refineries in the flats of the Cuyahoga River Valley. Can you say, Labor Day weekend ripoff.

Winds are starting to die down where I'm at.
Eye is just south of us starting to collapse.
Jerry. I'm glad it was nothing more then a thunderstorm for you but I don't think those people on the coast think so. Cat 1 for those can be catastrophic depending on where you are on the coast. Ask those in Plaquemines parish how it went for them today....not so good

Yeah, How is it we all notice that the production of CRUDE in the gulf shuts down for 72 hours and within the day the price of REFINED, SHIPPED and ready to RETAIL gasoline goes up .40 cents. The gulfs crude is three month away from my gas pump...
When will the politicains stop this very obvious gouging of the economy?

Oh, yeah... I forgot when the money from it stops flowing their way.

For all of you under the storm, hunker down and hang on. I remember riding out Camille, August 17th 1969 a half mile in from the beach at Gulfport.
We are all pulling for you today!

I've never been through a hurricane before, but I hope for everyone involved that their outcome is a safe one.

Got power back today around noon. Overall, the storm wasn't bad at my place...

however, the Amite River is higher than I've ever seen it. Many places that have never had water in the house do now. I've never seen Hwy 22 closed down in Head of Island, either. I've never seen water over Hwy 16 but it is.

Wind wise, not a bad storm, unless that wind is coming out of the southeast backing up Lake Ponchatrain which then backs up Lake Maurepas which backs up the Amite River and a couple of others. This storm came in at the worst possible place for folks around here.

Oh, and it is still raining.

Glad to hear you're OK and got your power back, I'm almost back to normal.
Storm wasn't all that powerful but because it stalled it was so much worse.
Flooding hasn't been to much of a problem where I live.

Back in the 90's when Opal hit, it tracked north and was officially a hurricane all the way through Alabama till it hit the TN line. You never would think you'd be riding out a hurricane in N. Alabama! Windows blown out downtown, buildings with exteriors peeleds away, and trees and powerlines down like a skidder had been through.

I've been in a couple hurricanes and tropical storms down in the panhandle too. It can get scary - even a cat. 1 or strong tropical storm.

Went to work today, some folks never lost power, others still don't have power. One guy is trapped in his house by the water but is fine, another can't get to their house because of the water.

Others not sure about as they live in/around La Place.

Had a mandatory evacuation in St. Amant area due to pumps failing and a breach in the levy. Not sure who said this was a nothing storm. Try telling that to the folks around here. Not sure of the exact amount of rain we've gotten thus far but it is in excess of 10" most places and 15"+ in others.

And the river is still rising.

Yeah, you can take the boy out of Cleveland, but you can't take Cleveland out of the boy. East sider or West?

If every few years you get hit by a really nasty hurricane and get flooded out, lose your possessions and your homes, why do you stay? If the gators don't get ya the snakes and mosquitoes do. I mean, duh? Is creole cookin' all that good?
