Good thing for the poor woman that the guy happened along, otherwise things could of turned out real bad. Takes some guts to help like that, he should be commended.

'Cause it's much easier to deal all the follow-on crap if you just "ask" him to stop first and he does.

If he had shot him, the ex would have probably said it was all a misunderstanding and drug him through court hoping to see a big payday. No good deed goes unpunished. I think he did the smart thing.
