View Full Version : What's this mean?

"This Kahr Arms pistol is one of a group of Kahr certified Test Fired pistols we get in once a year from a distributor. These are pistols that have been either loaned out by Kahr to law enforcement departments for testing and review – then handed back to Kahr for inspection and resale, or are in-house test guns to that have been used by the Kahr Quality Control department to ensure a good product is still being produced."
Would a Kahr described thus be a safe purchase? Or just like any other?

I'm just guessing here but I think that's what they consider refurbished.
I'd say it's probably a good purchase as it's been used as a demo, and back for a go through before being marketed, so any problems it seems like would have reared their ugly little heads and been addressed.

as long as it comes with a 5 year warranty, I would not hesitate to buy it. One nice thing, is NO BREAK IN REQUIRED...

It says maybe "a few magazines worth" of rounds, so maybe the break in is a little less than standard.
I'll ask about the warranty.

I'm pretty sure the warranty is intact but worth checking.
Some will not have very many if any rounds fired as they are display or show guns. Like SHOT or the NRA etc. Handled a lot but not shot at all and fairly not sold as shiny and new which is as it should be.

actually 50 rounds or 1000 rounds would not deter me from buying it , if the price was right. U can't hurt a kahr, they actaully get better with rounds downrange. If taken care of u can't tell a kahr with 50- rounds anymore than one with 10K roundjs. My PM9 has over 32K through it and it looks as good as the day I bought it,. There is no wear anywhere PERIOD...
I have a used K9 that I have put over 5K through it and I have no clue as to how many before I bought it. Again it looks new...

Hopefully it would be fully warranted and be CHEAPER than online new prices.
What ever floats your boat value-wise.

Less risky than buying a demo car or motorcycle, for sure. I personally prefer to put my own scratches on the finish of my guns, but if it's significantly cheaper...

It all depends on the price you have to pay. It is a used gun and should have a used gun price. What is it going for?

I think I saw that listing on GunBroker.com as well. The picture clearly showed a "U" stamped into the front of the trigger guard. At best, you would have a reduced warranty of a year.
From the Kahr website:
Q. What does the "U" on the trigger guard of my pistol mean?
A. If there is a "U" engraved on the trigger guard of your pistol, it is a factory refurbished and test fired model (often sold as a "test fired" gun). The gun is considered to be used, will come with one magazine, and is sold with a one year warranty.

Some time back I read an article written by a guy who went through the process to become an official gun tester for the state of CA. They run each of their samples through a well defined series of firing, dropping, etc. exercises to demonstrate their safety to get listed on the "safe to buy CA list". I'd guess these guns are some of the left overs.
BTW, the guy got out of the testing business after being totally overwhelmed with palettes of guns and ammo piled up everywhere. At first all his friends volunteered to shoot but after thousands of rounds per month tired of it and fell away. It's like eating ice cream. If you can have it when you want it's good, but to have to eat a gallon a day would get old in a hurry.

not that a U on the gun should deterone from buying it, but losing 4 years warranty would mean alot to me. Normally what goes wrong in agun is not 4 ytears later either but a 5 year warranty is nic eto lean back on down the road to, John r. did not mention the "U": stamp either so I am guessing as to if it is a"U" stamped gun or something else...

I looked again and it does have a U stamp. $589 for a like-new PM45 seems like a good deal to me. They seem to be about $650 new.

If there's a very good discount I'd buy it.

There is that. I'm dealing with that on another brand of gun, I'm shipping it for warranty service a second time, this time through an FFL so I can send it UPS ground instead of paying for next day air at $60.
So, like someone else pointed out, It still costs a small fortune to get free warranty work, between the postage and the test ammo.

You may have missed Jocko's point. You should not have to pay to ship it back to Kahr during the first year when it has a warranty.
But, if you have a problem after the one year warranty runs out . . . you most likely will have to pay to ship it back. Whatever. ;)
How does that work, you call them and they mail you a shipping label? If so, then I feel better.

They have always sent me an email for FedEx pickup. They have scheduled pickup and I've scheduled pickup and I've taken the pistol to FedEX Customer Service Centers myself to get it on the way. When you ship a pistol via FedEx or UPS, you have to hand it to one of their employees, not one of the "Store" employees. For FedEx the second most expensive next day service is good. I think there are three next day tiers. I've never paid for a return... out of 7 or so... once with the P380 AND my PM45 in the same package.
