I really love the Kahr pistols, my new favorite is the P9 that I picked up last week. I'm looking for the next one to buy. I do not own a steel Kahr as of yet. Between the K9 and K40, which do you suggest and why? Also, if I can find an Elite, is it worth purchasing or just go with the newer models.
Thanks,
Mike

The K9 is the cream of the Kahr line. Much more pleasant and affordable to shoot than the 40, IMO. If you can comfortably afford the Elite, go for it. Get the wood grips. Enjoy it for a lifetime! :D

The original rubber-gripped K9 is the best feeling grip and most natural pointer I've ever handled. The wood grips don't contribute to that... being slicker and easily damaged.
Adding the bike tube grip covers to ALL of my polymer Kahrs gives me a close approximation of that great feeling, though some grips are shorter.
JMHO and YMMV

I enjoy both the K9 and K40 but prefer the K9 due to round capacity and the more friendly shooting 9mm round. And with today's excellent 9mm hollow point rounds it's become my fav.
K9...'Cause I shoot them better, 9mm is cheaper, and for personal self defense with contemporary ammunition I see no overriding advantage to .40.

I was going to get a K40 and have it ported, but found a ported P40 here and I love it. It "kicks" like a 9mm now... maybe +P :) and probably is about the same as the heavier K40.

If these meant to home defense or carry guns, are you okay with the idea of having 2 guns with interchangeable mags in different calibers? I know the answer for myself but don't presume to extend to anyone else.
Don't not consider the K40 based on recoil. K40 is a very pleasant gun to shoot,. Lowest perceived recoil of all my .40s. Similar perceived recoil to polymer frame lightweight 9s. If you don't mind shooting the P9 you will get along the K40 just fine.
I actually find the P9 to be too soft. I have been shooting Sellier & Beloit 124 grain at the range. I am going to see if I can hoot a K40 locally.

here are a couple of options all are new guns:
K40 with night sights $703
K40 2003 Elite (NEW) W/O NS $665
K40 2003 Elite (NEW) with NS $752
Which would you buy and are these good prices?

No question with those prices I would opt for the Elite w/ NS. Night Sites will cost you $100 to put on after, and I would want them. The Elite will not perform better, but I like the polish and is easier to maintain.
My call would be to "go the distance"
BTW, those are decently good prices for new guns. Not a steal ... but very very fair.

I bought my MK40 Elite with NS for $820 about a year ago inline from LowPricedGuns.
The prices are good - IMHO.
Personally I'd go for the K40 2003 Elite (NEW) with NS $752.
The Elite upgrade is worth every penny and the factory Kahr NS are very good.
Don't worry about the recoil.
With the low bore axis and all stainless construction
the K/MK series in 40 are surprisingly easy to handle.

^^^^^What Dave says about the recoil is true! It doesn't torque as much as my Glock 23 and I shoot the K40 at least as well, if not better. That said I carry my CW9 more than the K40 because of the defference in weight. Everything has a trade off.

+1
My MK40 is much easier to shoot well than my Glock G27.
With Kahr's I think Polymer=9mm, Stainless=40

Ok, so I have a decided it is going to be the K9. I have a line on a black one with night sights and an elite with the stacked dot sights. The difference in price is $59 between the 2 with the Elite being cheaper. Is the Elite that much better than regular K9? I do like the looks of the black one. Both guns are new.

wy jdo u not think the black one does not have the eliute triggerin it. If u are referring to the finish of the elite, only then IMO I wold go for the black dlc finsih K9, no doubt ihn my mind if it is new it has the elit triggerin it and with the black dlc finsih, who cares about a shinny stainless finish..

Polished feed ramp, beveled mag well, polished finish.
I think a subtle rounding on the controls.
Go to the Kahr site and there is a detailed explanation of what Elite really constitutes.
It's mostly aesthetics.
Do you favor the shinny? Or a tactical black gun?
Your choice.
Either will serve you well.
