Hey all, I'm looking to pick up a P45 in the near future. I test fired one the other day, and while I was impressed at how well the gun handled the recoil, it still packed a substantial kick. I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations for lower powered ammo I could use for training to get comfortable with the gun. I was looking at the PNW Arms 185gr .45 ammo, for example. Any thoughts on what I could use?

If you roll your own my favorite target load for the .45 is 185 Gr cast SWC with 6.2 gr of Unique behind it. You can substitute a 200 gr. SWC with 6.6 gr. of Winchester WAP for similar results.

Something to keep in mind. Most Kahrs in my experience do not like light loads especially in the early break in stages. I attribute a lot of the reported maladies to under power ammunition.

After break in and things bond, both you and the gun, the light loads should not cause an issue. They may work fine in some instances too but not a sure thing.

I found that the Gold Dot 185's had more felt recoil than the Gold Dot 230's. Both were standard pressure loads. I checked the box and brass on the 185's thinking they may have been +P but they were not.

Standard 230 grain anything isn't bad. Some of the +p loads can get your attention. Tula 45 is cheap crap, but shoots fine in my well broken in P45
