I just got this announcement from GunsAmerica. Rock Island Auction will be auctioning over 1000 Colts, including over 150 first generation Colt Single Actions, this coming weekend. The web page is also a great history lesson on Colt Single Action Revolvers. Enjoy! :)

Interesting read. Thanks for posting. Sadly reminds me of buying my first single action revolver back in the 60s. LGS had 2 new nickel Colt 45 SAA w/4 3/4 barrels and one piece walnut grips for $120 each. Dummy me chose a $87.50 Ruger Blackhawk instead.:(

That's a sad story right there. Nothing wrong with a Blackhawk but a Colt for 120 bucks. I've done pretty much the same a few times.

I think the call that 20/20 hindsight.

Yep, us "smart" folks back then thought the old Colt was too "delicate" and prone to break while the Ruger was a "tank". I was so smart, surprised I didn't buy stock in Edsel autos:o.

I just paid over 10x that amount for my new SAA.

It would be interesting to compare what spending $1 on back then on various things would bring you today. Some things have done better than others.

I definately learned quite a bit just from reading the article. Unfortunately, I don't have a Colt SAA. Maybe one day?

I waited a long time before my dream came true. It was worth the wait.

Dreams are fun to have because they give you something pleasant to think about.

I remember in the 60's, my wife and I would spend about $20 at the grocery store, and push a full basket to the car. Now whatever you spend $20 on can be carried in one small plastic bag:(

Blunt, Jocko. Very blunt. No punches pulled there. :)

Here's a list of 1st Generation Colt SAA revolvers owned by famous outlaws, lawmen, cowboys, movie stars, military units, and other notable people. If you own an old Colt SAA revolver, you might want to see if there is anything listed about your gun.
