Mine is the front view of a CM9, and less obviously due to the low resolution, contains the Eye of Sauron embedded deep within the barrel. When Photoshopping this together, I also wanted to give a little of the impression of the Wave Motion Gun from Star Blazers, an 80's Japanese animation cartoon series.

The high resolution version shows this effect much better. But, when crunched down to the size and compression requirements of this forum, it's a lot less clear.

What does it mean? Well, I sort of leave that open to interpretation. To me, it represents modern technology mixed with fantasy. A love of guns, tempered with the reminder that Sauron was also a fan of technology and weaponry, and that great evil can be unleashed through the barrel of a gun.

My "LACK" of an avatar is only because my computer skills can be compared to owning a Porsche and only being able to go up and down the driveway in it. :o One day I will get my dtr to "tutor" me on how to do everything other than just being able to type so I can post pics etc.

If anyone wanders around in their profile as I did, trying to figure out where this is done, there are two places.

1 is under User CP -> Edit Profile Picture.
But, the forum crunches this down and it's hardly any better than your avatar.

2. is under User CP -> Your Profile (white link on blue background - easy to miss) -> Albums on the right side. Create a new album, give the album a name (mine is called "General Album") and upload your larger pic there.

Still would like to see larger avatars. What about it, John?

Mine is just the first production F-35 AF-1 making its first landing. Kind of goes with the screen handle.
That story...
I worked with a young guy and to him everyone was "Dude". As I tried to train him on Aircraft opps checks and we worked closely togeather over several weeks I found I was called several verisions of Dude. Sometime I was "tall Dude", "fat Dude", "teacher Dude" and a bunch of others I'd rather forget. So one day, at break with the crew, this youngster tried to call to me and I just kind of snapped. "look" I told him "could we just go with DUDE, just plain Dude, I'll answer to that!"

I have a cheapie by Merlitta that scares the heck out of me! It always seem like it's going to blow up, and I use the steam heater to release pressure before opening the danged thing. I like espresso, but we drink regular coffee... well, STRONG coffee that tastes like espresso sometimes... three 1/4-cups of strong, dark coffee for 10 to 12 of those 5-ounce cups a drip coffeemaker produces.

I have two 100-watt Bunn coffee carafe warmers so that my coffee mugs stay hot when I'm distracted... as I usually am online and "working" around the house. There are no real coffee warmers any more with the worry about liability suits!

Reminds me of this place I did some computer work for at one time. It was called "That Kitchen Shop" and they specialized in ultra-high-end appliances for your kitchen. The price tags on that stuff were CRAZY high.

Yet, they were too cheap to invest in a real server with decent software. They were using a Scratch-n-Dent refurbished workstation running Windows XP and some crappy shareware software to run their business on. And they were always asking how much my time was going to cost.

Rich bastards are always cheap. I guess that's part of how they stay rich.

I would rather drink that any day than the alcoholic beverages made by native women chewing up stuff and spitting it into a gourd or whatever to ferment... yummy! Those travel/documentary things show stuff like that that just doesn't sound appealing!:puke:

Squadron patch for VMFA-542. Heavier than air (that's what the V is) Marine Fighter Attack squadron 542. That's the outfit I served in from formation @ Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro, Ca to disband and reform @ MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. Vietnam tour lasted April of 65 to December of 65 if memory serves me correctly.

Flying with these guys? I think this is a pair of F4-B's. Proof positive that with enough thrust even a brick will fly...

Mine is a WWII German Enigma cipher machine - three rotor variety. It had a daily key setting of: 3,283,883,513,796,974,198,700,882,069,882,752,878, 379,955,261,095,623,685,444,055,315,226,006,433,61 5,627,409,666,933,182,371,154,802,769,920,000,000, 000 (or approx. 3x10^114) theoretical daily key combinations that could be set. That's more electrons than Hubble can see in the observable universe (approx. 10^80).

The much harder (approx. 2x10^145) four rotor naval variety used by the U Boats was routinely broken by the US in about 20 minutes.

I've noticed that. Wonder which one came first ?? It was all good, as my late wife was born in Johnson city, Tn. But you did see the little longhorn on the bill?

UT [Tennessee] was founded in 1794 and was one of the first universities in the US so I'm pretty sure it was first. I didn't graduate from UT, but I did take a few courses there after I got my degree and while I was waiting for my flight training class at Pensacola. However, growing up in Knoxville, it was hard not to be a fan.

Yes, I noticed the "Longhorn".

Why is your UT [Texas] cap the same colour as my UT [Tennessee] cap?

Just for historical accuracy, gents, Tennessee and Texas had the same color (bright orange) until Darrell Royal, head coach of the Longhorns, changed the Texas football uniforms to BURNT orange to better hide the ball in the belly of the running backs. The color change took place in the late 60's.

This is a 324BC prototype Harley Davidson that Jocko was instrumental in developing. While he can't take credit for the wheel, that happened earlier that same year he played a big part in the frame and of course the head test driver, test dummy.

Agreed. That's why Winston Churchill himself picked the cover name stamped on all Enigma decrypts: TOP SECRET ULTRA because he felt it was the ultra secret of the war. Breaking the Japanese codes were labeled TOP SECRET MAGIC because it seemed that's what breaking them took - magic.

like it, leave it there. That photo is of my great great great uncle. PETER PIper PICKED A PECK OF PICKLED PEPPERS. Honest truth that was his name, the family later on shortened it to just d!ckweed. The bike was a early predecessor to the now harley FATBOY.(notice the solid wheelss) Back then D!ckweed did not ride two up, so no sissy bar was needed. No turn signals was required, as they had no corners or intersections back then. That bike is located in the Harley Museum on the 5th floor. Being family and all I was allowed to go into their archives and see this wonderful machine. Thanks great one for bringing back ol memories of UNCLE PETER PIPER alias D!ckweed.

oL peter piper MARRIED LATE IN LIFE and he marriend into the F*gg family (yup that was their name). anyway he married their daughter IMA.

There's something magic about Harleys. Even other brand riders stop to admire them at the "coffee shop". Thought about taping that Harley Rumble so at stop signs I could play it loud with the windows down on my old Pinto. (just kiddin)

There is a muscle car sound thing you can hook up to you car with a wire attached to the engine somehow. It sounds like a real bad dude and revs matching your engine. I saw it on a You tube some time back.
