I'm regretting not purchasing my pm9 in the DLC with night sights and I can't seem to get it off my mind! I'm wondering if a traded mine in for the one that I should have purchased in the first place, how big of a hit am I going to take and is it worth my sanity. I figure the DLC slide was a difference of $40.00 and the night sights I believe were an extra $80.00 totaling $120.00 difference. My question is do you think that they would take my PM9 stainless with no N/S and $250.00 extra for the one I should have bought in the first place? Mine is two months old with 200 rounds through it.

You can try, you may better off selling privately, dealers will not pay you retail, rule of thumb is that they will not pay you no more that that can get from their suppliers (wholesaler) of what they will profit from(usually at a 100%).

alot depends if you bought it off of a dealer that you know well and have done business with him before. Your logic is close. First thing you need to do is to even see if they can find you a PM9 with the dlc finsih and night sights on it. The PM9 in that confiruartion is not the easiest to find. Why not check with some refinishers and see how their price compares to what u are willing to pay.

Accurate-Iron.com refinished my PM9 that had a dlc finish on it but then I had the slide melted by accurate-iron so I had to have himr efinish it. He did a super job on mine in a titanium like finish that has been pocket carried now for two years and not one place is showing any signs of wear. He can also get you any night sights that kahr sells also, or u can just order the sights from kahr and send them to him to install when he refinshs your slide. my bet it will be alot less money and your PM9 evidently is working great, so why chance maybe getting a new PM9 that will indeed need to be broken in with rounds down range and hell who knows, it might give you some issues.

I can say accurate-iron is super in his work, many on this forum have had him do work on their kahrs and not one complaint that I know of. My bet is you can get ur slide redone and nifght sights far cheaper than possably the $250 you think you might hav eto pay and certainly it would be faster than ordering a PM9 with what you want on it..

Or you can send you slide to this people (http://www.ccrrefinishing.com/hg.htm) and will save a bunch of money and their coatings are very durable.
Talk to them and I sure they can come with a coating that
will resemble the DLC. Finally you can buy the slide from Kahr directly:

Slide is $145.20This part is factory-fitted on an exchange basis only.

jkalantzis-

When I got my PM9 it had to be DLC slide and night sights. One thing about some of the night sights is that in bright daylight they appear as a washed grey. Some people do not like them for that reason. I got a PM45 DLC with standard sights that I was going to change to night sights but decided not to. IMHO if the SHTF I do not think I will have time to sight down either one. Good luck in whatever direction you go.

New Trijicon Night Sight (Front) (http://www.kahrshop.com/cgi-bin/itemdetail.asp?itmid=1677)

Try just the front sight, and black out the rear - it's amazingly effective.

Roguard Firearms Finish (http://www.robarguns.com/roguard.htm)

$110 for Roguard slide only

My local gun dealer that I purchased my PM9 from has lots of them in stock including the one that I want. I guess I will just have to see tomorrow if he will except my offer. If not then I guess it is back to the drawing board with some great suggestions from all of you.

The "exchange" part sucks. I like spares or selling the spare parts.
I mean... what if you want to change the slide to match your clothes, style, or... just for change!:D

I don't want to start a new thread for this. How are standard sights (and night sights) aligned on the top of the PM9 slide? If I were to get night sights, should I send in the whole gun so they could test fire for accuracy to see if the front and rear sights are aligned? The question is--- do they eyeball the sights and say they look aligned after pushing the sights in place, or do they test fire to check alignment, or does the machine/equipment/pusher indicate alignment of the sights? :)

just send the slide, they will set the sights centered and then it is shooter desires if you have to move them. I serioulsy doubt if they test fire after installing sights. It would not be necessary IMO..

It's easy to center the sights over the bore, assuming that's in the center of the slide.

Measure the width of the front sight post.

Mount slide in vice with flat jaws, preferably machined aluminum, padded with one sheet of paper on each side to prevent marring on the finish.

Measure distance between the jaws on the slide.

Take the distance between the jaws, divide it by two (call this x). Take the width of the front sight post, and divide by two (call this y). Subtract y from x (call this measurement z). Install the front sight so that distance z happens when the slide is clamped, and is measured from the side of the front sight to the vice jaws.

Or just do what I do, eyeball it, and use calipers to see if there's any fine tuning needed from side to side.

If you really have to have it test fired to verify the zero, send the whole gun to Novak. They'll install and test fire to verify the zero.

Are there any rear adjustable sights that will fit the PM9? By adjustable, I mean with a small hex screwdriver or something for windage.

Most of the sights I see, including Novak, are fixed, and you need a punch to knock it left or right.

Thanks

And you would want a sight that moves with a screw on a defensive pistol, which can be knocked out of adjustment because....?

It's seriously a set and forget - and if you're using the right techniques, generally there's no setting involved.

because I may want one. :) I have seen adjustable rear sights in magazines for other guns. Do they really get knocked out of alignment that easy? I like the dot the i factory sights.

You're not likely to find dot the i style adjustable sights - 3 dots, yes, Kahr has them on the T series as the base sight. Simple replacement, though I can't find the sight itself in Kahr's catalog.

You'd be suprized how easily some models of adjustable sights can be damanged. The ones Kahr uses has wings to help prevent some damage from occuring, and are adjustable for windage and elevation.

Just me personally, but the less things there are to go out of adjustment or get damange on a gun I may bank my life on, the better. Taking a brass rod and wrapping electrical tape around it to prevent marring while giving slight baby taps to the sight will easily move it where you need it - and it's a heckuva lot cheaper than adjustables, without being able to get knocked out of adustment nearly as easily.

OK I went to my gun shop today and they did everything but just laugh in my face. I asked them how much of a difference it would be to trade mine in for the one that I wanted and they started with the old, well how much do you want for yours! I said I realize that I'm going to take a hit but I would just like to know how much of a hit and then determine if it was acceptable for my mistake. After a half hour or so of back and forth he offered me $250 for my PM9 that I just bought off him for $565 one month ago. I realize you loose money when you use a gun but come on over fifty percent in one month:confused: I guess I will be sending her off to have some work done on her unless anyone wants to purchase her.

They want to at least profit 100%, You are better off sending the slide to someone to retouch it. If you send it to Kahr including the shipping you may be nearing the $200 dollars. So, it is up to you on what to do.

If you decide to sell let us know how much. I'm sure you can sell it here assuming it's running perfectly. I may be interested. Where in FL are you? btw $565 is as low a price as I have heard for a PM9 - was it NIB?

Hey! I buy clothes with CCW in mind -- longer fuller shirts and shorts with belt loops. Unfortunately, I bought about two dozen inexpensive, nice-looking, cotton Name-Brand polos with pockets in Large size, so that they would be fuller and CCW better. First wash and then too much drying -- not-dry-too-much, but heat makes them shrink shorter and wider
-- not so good for CCW, or looks.
I'm having better luck with polos from Duluth, and Eddie Bauer shirts are fuller and don't seem to shrink, either.
