View Full Version : Is Kahrtalk Popularity Up?

When I go to the Kahrtalk.com home page, it seems like I sure see lots of members over on the left side of the screen. 60 or more is pretty typical these days, and I don't remember that many months back.

So, either my memory is getting weak, or this site is gaining popularity. I have lots of firearms, but find myself on this forum.

Why do others find themselves here? For me it is the friendly, honest company that freely hands out advice with humor and the threat of horse heads. Just sayin.

it is a good forum, no doubt about it. Good mods to. Lots of smart members here to and they are always ready to help. No question is ever dumb. sometimes a dummy might ask a question, but WTF, we are what we are. It is my only form and it will be my last forum..

I recently joined another forum that caters to many of my interest and I once again know what a noob feels like. They are great and they are wicked smart and I feel like I was born yesterday. Often overwelmed with information and get a headache trying to remember all the stuff I see.

But this forum is like a comfortable recliner, I obviously visit it frequently every day so its familiar and I know the players and they are most all like buddies.
It's obviously habit forming as whenever I'm unable to check in I wonder what everyone is up to.

Usually no good which is my fortee.

Well, I am not the best responder as I don't know the difference between Left and right ideas. I rather prefer straight talk, tell it like it is.
Anyway I had not given much thought to the Kahr line of firearms before. I bought a XD45c and love the gun. I use this one for car carry. I heard about the Kahr CM9 and started watching the reviews and everything looked good for pocket carry so I bought one. I broke it in and I found that the recoil was much less than I expected and accuracy was excellent so it became my daily pocket carry. Then exploring more into the Kahr line I found that the MK9 was probably up into the 95+ percent of reliable and easy shooting 9mm handguns for belt carry so I decided to jump into one for the times I wantet to belt carry either IWB or OWB. This gun fills the bill perfectly. I love it and it is my dedicated house and belt gun.

Another deciding factor about Kahrs is I have never read any stories about (AD's) accidental discharges. Either there are none or they are being covered up 100%. Using my own experiance I am with the "there are none" croud. I feel safe 100% of the time with "one in the tube" as my personal experance has never had any indication of an "ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE". Kahr is and will be my "First Defense" weapon of choice.

I'm just happy to know my left hand from my right. AD with Kahr appears to be a non-issue. Certainly, Kahr pistols are a draw.

I don't find myself learning as much about Kahrs, having been here awhile, as I do finding myself amazed by the breadth and depth of interests and characters on the forum.

That doesn't necessarily explain the increasing popularity. I suspect since the CM9 came out, there have been a whole lot more Kahr owners than in the past too.

Devil's advocate: Most users are newbies, and most newbies have problems.

Are problems up?

~~~~
Hell no!~ Problems are at a low... the CM9 and CM40 are off to a fine start and we're in the money, honey!~~
~~~~

Still, folks have needs, and this forum fills those needs. Good to have a place like this!~

Uumm eerr well sir I had an ND with one of my Kahr K9s. It was totally my fault and would have happened with any firearm I had in my hand at that time. I simply just flat pulled the trigger when I knew better than to do so. I recall even thinking to my self what the flock are you doing while I was doing it.

Fortunately, if you are following most of the rules of safety
even a lapse in one doesn't have to be disastrous.
By always having the barrel pointed in a safe direction
even a ND can be weathered without loss of life or limb.

After carrying for so many years it's not too hard to get too comfortable and complacent with our old friends.
Firearms demand our respect.
In terms of safety - we must all endeavor to persevere.

As for KahrTalk popularity?
It seems that gun ownership, concealed carry and the shooting in general
has gained broad and deep popularity with the mainstream public as of late.
I've never seen the number and diversity of people regularly at the LGS and local gun ranges.
I wouldn't be surprised if many gun forums are enjoying greater membership.
Plus with Kahr guns being specifically designed for CC.
And this forum being so well run.
We might enjoy a greater percentage of that growth.

ND do happen with Kahrs as with any other firearm and not just to novices. Four or five years ago my PM45 was new and I was showing it to my son who was visiting me. My son is a police chief and has been using firearms for years as a cop, a member of a SWAT team, and a competitive shooter. He was examining the pistol and I went into another room. Then there was a loud BANG! He had dropped the mag and then sighted on a light switch down the hall from my study to try the trigger, completely forgetting that there might be a round in the chamber. I guess it can happen to anyone during a moment of inattention.

BTW, from 25 feet and at a severe angle, he blew the whole light switch out of the wall. I guess that speaks for Kahr accuracy.

I come to this forum for the wit and wisdom Some of the replies I've read have scared me out of my wits and have cause me to question my wisdom. But, I keep coming back for the personalities the likes of Bawanna, Jocko, JFootin, et al. This has caused me to question my sanity. Kahr pistols ain't half bad neither. :)

I've been back on here more, now that I've decided a Kahr .45 is what I want to carry, rotating with my K9. :)

Found my way to KahrTalk because after an incident I wanted, if possible, to pocket a nine over my .380. [The PM9 has replaced most of my .380 pocket carry.] Knowledgeable help from folks here to resolve two early issues and then just the overall knowledge relating to CC and the mostly friendly atmosphere kept me coming back.

To really get this forum going we need more posters. We need a lot more input from everyone so there is always something new to read and reply to. I like the forum and check it often but I can read all the new posts in about 5 minutes and then I move on. I come back several times each day to see what is new, but I would stay longer if there were more new posts. Pick a subject and post away. Keep complaints to a minimum though. Post questions and stories of interest. When I like a product, I like to read about it.:D

I've noticed a slew of newcomers in the past month or two... I know, because I failed to keep up with posting "welcome to the forum!".

So, yes, it seems like this forum popularity is up, but that would make sense because gun carry popularity is up in general, and Kahr is a fine choice for a carry pistol. Pretty much what Barth said above.

Hopefully, the "good personality" of the forum stays intact as more members join in. I'm sure we'd all hate to see it turn into one of those "other" gun forums.

I talked with JohnH about making a link for newbies at the top of everything on the home page. It's buried under Kahr-Tech now and no one can find it there.

I think it's important that everyone watch the take down video for their respective pistol before screwing with it and damaging the pistol! Too many guys don't look at the manual, take the pistol apart, and then stick the slide lock pin in without any knowledge of the proper procedure and the possible damage they can wreak! That's probably the most often way that "malfunctions" occur. Handling a pistol requires your full attention because you can screw up a good gun and have it fail when you need it most.

Then there are the "dumb questions" that are answered in the manual AND the F.A.Q.s at Kahr.com. Yeah, there are no dumb questions... but it does indicate that you haven't looked at the manual or the video of your respective pistol. Sometimes the same questions are asked several times on the same forum page.

Since Kahr developed the CM line, we've had a big increase in new Kahr owners... a good thing, but there are SO MANY problems that I wonder if most aren't caused by the new owners not learning how to operate and care for their new "toy".

Anyhow, I'm hoping the forum will become more Newbie-friendly and that we'll see less owner-induced "malfunctions".

That said... this was my first "chat" forum and I've tried others as I've looked for info on my other brands of weapons. It IS a "lonely guy" kind of thing going to a forum and being a newbie... no where so more than Ruger.com with their military rank structured icons/avatars and such.

XdTalk is mind-boggling... that they have THOUSANDS of members on at any given time... many thousands, sometimes! Here we're lucky to break 100, but it's a more intimate bunch... I think, having been here 3 years now. We have a lot more leeway and push the limits sometimes on speech, but it's an adult thing and we can have fun and it's a real sociable atmosphere.

I hope we can continue without more stringent rules being enforced and have our fun AND help others and continue to learn about our pistols here in a friendly atmosphere.

Kahr has introduced a new mini .380acp which seems to be all the rage now-a-days....coupled along with a smaller (than a Glock 36) polymer .45acp and the increasing popularity of the PM9.

i was in to Kahrs in the late 90s early 2000s when i owned a MK9 and then a K9......eventually traded off for Glocks that fit the bill better due to the weight and size of the all steel Kahrs......now they seem to be having the bugs worked out of their polymer guns more and more.....ive finally picked up a PM9, toying with the idea of a P380 and a PM45...if and when they get those bugs worked out eventually....

I bought a K9 with NS in early '98 and loved the pistol, but it was just too heavy for me. I continued to carry my .22 Walther TPH until I heard about the new P380. I ordered and paid for one with night sights... and began an 11-month wait for that one. I had ammo and a Crossbreed Mini Tuck for it within 5 months of the order... the Mini Tuck was highly thought of on this forum. I bought a horse hide one for my PM9 and use it for everything but the P380.

Meanwhile, it seemed that everyone here had a PM9 and that was the thing to have. I wanted a PM45 and went to a gun show(Jan. 2010) hoping to just see one and see what it felt like in my hand. I didn't see one of those, but I did find a LNIB Black PM9 with night sights! It was like finding the Holy Grail... really... surrealistic! It felt like the clouds in the sky parted and focused rays from sun shown through and highlighted the pistol. I bought it... wrote a check... hadn't expected to buy anything! Then I bought a box of 9mm FMJ to load it with for the trip back home. I had been in a hurry to take a load of electronic stuff up to the north side for recycling and then had to hurry the the south side to the gun show. In the rush, I had forgotten my EDC!!

As I left the dealer and walked out to the car I kept feeling tingles and everything just seemed unreal... as I said... surrealistic!

The extractor flying off was the first real problem I've had in over 2 1/2 years! I got the PM45 less than a month later and about a month after that my P380 came in on March 31, 2010. The front night sight was dead and it went back to Kahr the next day, unfired!

I haven't had the best of luck with NEW polymer Kahrs, but I eventually get them sorted out here or at the factory... perseverance!

The P380 weighs just a fraction of an ounce less than the .22 TPH, both loaded with 6+1 rounds... Stingers in the TPH and +P Buffalo Bore 90-gr Gold Dots. That's quite an increase in firepower and more reliable ignition.

Another rambling long story.:rolleyes:

I know the feeling (about joining another forum and feeling pretty raw). I participate in a couple of others, each of which seems to have its resident experts and long-timers, some of whom are truly helpful, while others seem to enjoy abusing new members by reminding them that their question was discussed back in 2007 and the case is now closed.

Of course there are some "very senior" members here like any forum, but I never felt bad as a new guy.

I lurk on some other firearms forums but I do enjoy Kahr talk, most likely due to our smaller number of members keeping things fun and civil.
I too check in a couple of time a day. I'm off work recoveing from surgery and this palce has helped with the sanity issues.
Glad we are all here... Keep up the good work!

I have checked out a number of forums over the years for info and research on whatever may have caught my interest at the moment. I have been a member of a few for a few years, joined others soley so I could use the search function.

Through my reading posts on new forums I can kind of guage the type of forum it is. If I like it I join and participate, though I may have nothing to add but have a few questions to ask. As time goes on I just might find myself being able to help out a "newbie" here and there.

Thus I am on here and try to participate. One thing I REALLY like about this forum is that it is not ALL Kahr and ONLY Kahr. Too many sites are too narrow in their focus. I never knew that Kahr owned Thompson until I joined this site, and I bought my Tommy Gun about 6 months before my K40!

I only own one Kahr but own a few other firearms. I like that ANY firearm can be discussed on here with no backlash. I can add to those discussions as I have a wide variety of firearms and have never joined one of those manufacturer specific forums.

Still waiting for the horse head to show up, though. I'm sure it will eventually!

I belong to a great many forums ranging from guns to aviation because I have many interests, and most have hundreds or thousands of members. However, the intimacy here at Kahrtalk makes it my favorite and the only one I visit daily. It's almost like meeting with friends at a coffee shop every afternoon to talk about whatever comes up in conversation. Although I have only met a very few member in person, it seems like I know dozens of people here that I can call friends. I wouldn't want it any other way and I hope it never changes.

I found this site when looking for info on my Thompson, it has become a great getaway from Moderating on another site. We have to work hard to keep it friendly over there, so the "recliner" feeling here is most welcome.
