View Full Version : Is it redundant???

Thinking out loud here, I currently have the PM9, a recently acquired P9, a P380 and soon to have a K9. As it stands right now the PM9 is my EDC and will probably make the K9 my EDC and the PM9 my BUG. The question is, is there room for the P9? Will she just become a safe queen or fit in somewhere? Your thoughts?

Besides varying my EDC, I go to the range 1 to 2 times a week. By doing that I fire every weapon I have at least once a month. That way non of my dozen become safe queens (3 are kahrs).

NA....keep the P9.
Depending on what your wearing or doing that day the P9/PM9 would be lighter than the k9/PM9 combo.

How could any real gun be considered redundant? I just don't see any way myself.

I apologize, u have found a new bad habit an dI think Tinman is responsible for you doing this stuff, if not even in kahoots with u, as from knowing u so long, ur not smart enough to be able to do this stuff without good outside help. Just sayin. There has never been a murder or murderer on this forum but there is alwaqys a first and they tell me some of the prisons allow Ipads. Just sayin ol great one. And I have beentold u are even allowed to have and raise pets and I would choose "horses" for obvious reasons. Course I am writing this to one who obviously would also be "history". So in ur case it could be a mute point.

I'm leaving the country. I think I'll go visit Pataya. Damn I just gave away my secret location.
OK, I'm going somewhere else. Tinman, your not taking me down with ya.

Ok Tinman, I changed my mind, I'll share a cell with you anytime. You got my back right?
Course if I'm in the pine box, probably balsa wood in my case your on your own with the Honda Dreamliner assassin.
With that brick wall in the background it's almost like a firing squad photo. Got cajones that one.

There are several secret rules you have to learn about guns if you want to talk about them, fondle them an actually shoot them.
1. You never,never,ever have enough.
2. There is no such thing as redundancy when it comes to owning more guns.
3. If you have an unanswered question re-read rule one and two.

This kind of thinking is what's gotten me to where I am today.
I don't really know exactly how many guns I have. I used to tell folk it was about 45, but I think at the moment it's more like above 50. I shoot .22 rimfire from CB to WMR, all common handgun calibers up to .45 Colt, and 30-30/762x39/.308/30-06/7.62x54R rifle, plus 12 gauge.
Of course this requires ammunition 'cause who needs an expensive, fancy hammer or brick? So, with the terror of gov't regulation looming, I gotta make sure I have an adequate supply of ammo. This currently means at least 500 rounds in any caliber I have a gun for....more for some....many thousands for my carry/shtf calibers .38/357, 9mm, 45ACP,762x39, 12 gauge(only a few K)....and 30K+ of .22lr.
So, I now have an armory sufficient for me and trusted neighbor to ward off most zombie and government attacks and enough stockpiled ammunition to ensure a newsworthy neighborhood crater should my basement bunker ever catch fire.
Still concerned, however, I'm dusting off and upgrading my reloading equipment. Planning buys of essential powders, primers, and bullets.
Simple redundancy long left in the dust....all welcome to join me in to third power plus paranoia land.
Just sayin'...this is what you could be getting yourself into.

I too have been adding ammo to the mix. I have a few thousand rounds of 9 but only a few hundred of the others. I will be adding more.
Fwiw, My just run to the store guns are a 442 or P238 (most likely to be soon replaced by a P938). Other than that, daily wear is a PM9 (most likely to be soon replaced by a P938) or 1911 Officers ACP weather permitting. MK9 in desk drawer at home. K9 in wife's desk drawer at home. Nightstand guns..both wife and me...are 3" K frames Smiths. Truck/car console guns are .40 Glocks.
Point, if anything, is you're not even close to having to worry about too many guns, redundancy yet. :)

I have several "safe queens". My favorite is an old S&W model 10 PPC gun, big, hefty and shoots like a house afire. Useless except for the range, however going anywhere but back in the safe?
Nawwww...
The more the merrier. I just need a bigger safe as I'm out of "long gun" room.

Redundency? Is that like having a spare K9 for your carry K9?
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn112/tv_racin_fan/PairofK9s.jpg
Or is it more akin to having a spare SP101 for your SP101 BUG?
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn112/tv_racin_fan/SP101swithstuff.jpg
Ok so really the SP101 aint my BUG I generally only carry one or the other.... but you get the idea.
Of course tho I could start carrying the GP 100 and the SP101 as a BUG combo...

Decisions.. decisions.
Now if I had my druthers I'd carry a pair of Ruger Old Armys in some sort of hollywood cowboy rig. I'm thinkin the Andrews Custom Leather Shootist rig or Double Gunfighter rig..

Spares are good. During my last visit to the range, I started with my wife's P380... malfunctions galore and magazines becoming unlatched... bad magazine catch.
Then shot my PM45 and the loaded mags I brought with it as well as a little extra ammo... fine.
Then I shot my EDC the PM9. Weird grouping to the left with carry ammo and mags... then at round 6 on a K9 mag loaded with FMJ, the extractor departed for parts unknown. This was the pistol I was concealed carrying for the day... at the start of an extended shopping trip!
That left me with the PM45 and NO AMMO. I did have a full 20-round box of new Speer 124-grain +P Gold Dots Short Barrel version. I talked the owner/employee of the store/range into letting me pay the difference to swap for the same in .45 so I could press on with my PM45 using my Mini Tuck holster that will hold every Kahr except the P380. A box of that ammo was marked $38.95 and after tax would have been almost $42!!
I learned to be more prepared. I'm ordering spare extractors and afew of the springs and pins in case that happens again. I also will not be without extra defense ammo for my spare pistols at the range!
I'm carrying my ported P40 instead of the PM9 and still awaiting parts. The mail man cometh and I hope that he has them today!
Yay! USPS First Class package... new PM9 extractor, pins and spring, and a new P380 magazine catch! I've been waiting to see what Jay was sending me before ordering complete sets for everything. The extractors are different for each of my polymer pistols and the P380 parts are all different, but for the others, the PM45 has a larger rear pin, but the rest share the same pins and springs, so I don't need all of those $6.60 springs! I already had spares for the P40.
I'm doing a load of wash and want to go to a third gun show venue at the armory today... don't know if it's the first of its kind, but on the OTHER side of town. I want to check it out.
Anyhow, I'll cut my wandering short  and get to work on the Newbie Post as well!
Spare stuff is good!
Wynn:)
