View Full Version : 1999 k9
I have come across an unfired 1999 era K9 unfired in a case with two magazines. Will this have the longer NYPD trigger? At $500 I am going to have a hard time turning this down. Any thoughts on buying a gun from this vintage? Thanks.

All K9s had the longer trigger unless they were marked on the slide as an "Elite" model. I'd look for a bit better deal. Older K9s seem to go for around $400 or so. I'd wheel and deal and make a lower offer were I you.

Seeing that the gun is unfired and as long as there is no rust I think it is a real good deal. That little difference in trigger pull length wouldn't stop me. Its probably almost undectable.

would this not also be a carbon steel K9. More than likely it will have the nypd trigger, but again why ake something out of nuttin. It is a great trigger.
U have no warranty, and IMO $500 is way to much. U can get or find a nypd all stanless version for under that..Nuttin wrong with carbon steel other than more maintenance is required. U more than likely have the early style dovetails, which limits some of ur sights choices. I am just given u my points, so you have seen the gun, u know its history. I wonder why or how it was stated it was unfired etc. I wonder where it has been for 13 years..

If it is not Stainless then maybe it is too expensive. To me as far as sights go since these guns aren't target pistols as long as there are sights its good enough for me. Just sayin.

on the gun, slide/frame should be the wod stainless. Is the frame scalloped like the new K9's or basically smooth .. I am not sure when kahr went from carbon steel to stainless.....
From the photos I have seen on the gun, it does not say stainless. The dealer told me he had bought the gun as part of a large collection. It still has the trigger lock on it from the factory. I have decided to pass on it although the price to me was tempting compared to the price of new ones and every used one seems to have the NYPD trigger. I may just go all the way and buy an Elite. If this one doesn't have the trigger I want, I'm never going to be satisfied. The local Gander Mountain says they have a bunch of polymer frame guns in stock so I may go look at those although I think I really want the steel frame.

error on the side of catuion BUY NEW. U don'thave to buy a K9 elitetoday, all K9 have the elite trigger in them.. ur probalby right about the trigger, if u are now not sure, then u will never be sure until maybe it is to late. I perwsonaly have zero issues with the nypd trigger, most do not but if it ain't what YOU want then indeed wait to do it right. If u want all stell the K9 is one of thefinest out there. Just sayij

Regarding rust concerns with the early Kahr 9s ... around '96 or '97 I had Kahr ship to my dealer a black Kahr 9 after Kahr explained it had a new surface treatment they were trying (Birdsong Black T). It proved to be an excellent coating; so good I had Walter Birdsong coat a Sig 228 slide. Just mentioning this since there are a few early K9s out there with this nice durable black coating. I believe the boxes these came in are marked with the finish. Mine looks new to this day but I do carry it in a lined Mitch Rosen holster which is very protective.
(Shortly after Kahr came out with nickel coated finishes on carbon steel then moved on to stainless.)
