I received my shipment of the Underwood Ammo this week. I ordered the 9mm 124 +p, 124 +p+, 147+p, and 95 +p in 380. I went to the range and shot it in a variety of guns. Unfortunately I do not have access to the chrono at this time. My review is simply a "seat of the pants" review.

I had my Glock 19, Kahr PM9, Kahr P9, and my P380 as my test guns. I took each of the magazines and loaded 2 rounds of each weight for a total of 6 rounds and kept them in the same order so I would know which round I had just shot. I started out with the 124+p then the 124 +p+ and finally the 147 +p. Out of the Glock all of the rounds were very accurate and I did feel the increase in recoil for the different rounds. The 147 was very stout but not unmanagable by any means. There was only a negligible difference in felt recoil for the two 124 grain rounds. From the PM9 the 147 +p had a lot of recoil and felt the gun torque, not bad but it was a handful. The 124 +p was very soft in comparison and the follow up shot was quick. The 124+p+ had a little more recoil but felt very good from the gun. I then did the same test with the P9, running the same rounds through it. Having a full grip on the gun made the recoil of the 147 much more manageable. Both of the 124's felt about the same. In the end, I really like the 124 +p+ rounds. If I am going to be carrying 2 guns and would need a reload, I think the 124+p+ was the most controllable for me out of the PM9. I will be running the 147's in my Glock for bedside duty.

Regarding the 380, I absolutely LOVED the 95 +p round, it has a distinctive kick but it was very manageable. I did quite a few one handed shots and it was extremely accurate. I shot 40 rounds of it so I need to buy more.

Also I only had 1 malfunction today with the ammo. I was shooting the P9 with the 147 and the magazine unseated itself. No other issues though.

Hopefully soon I will be able to get my hands on a chrono and test velocities.

I am now big fan of the Underwood Ammo.

I need to contact those folks and see if they'll cut me a deal on testing and evaluation ammo samples. TNoutdoors9 has done the service length barrel testing and I should cover the short barrel testing.

You may want to ask Kahr for a new magazine catch. One of my PM40's did the same thing with their older, non-plus-P ammo and with some Remington 155 grain "Target" ammo. I was experiencing a mag drop twice with every magazine. Installing a new catch stopped it from happening.

The catches must wear more quickly than I realized.

Yes, YMMV but that seems to be the solution if you have further difficulties.

I will contact them next week and ask them to send me one.

I "discovered" their ammo a few months ago. They chrono at or above the advertised fps out of a G19. It would be interesting to see short barrel results.

The owner's name is Kevin Underwood, a very nice guy. I've communicated with him a few times and he seems to be a stand-up guy. I look forward to the new ammo test results.

I would skip the form on "contact us" and just use the email: sales@underwoodammo.com He's good at answering the emails in a day or less.

Cliff

PS Speer won't let them advertise it but they are using Gold Dot bullets.

i have no affiliation with Underwood ammo, so i say this with no chance of gain; Underwood ammo is one of the best ammo makers to come along in a long time.

their quality is as good as any of the big names like remington, winchester, or federal, thier loads are top line and not watered down version (if you want 10mm look no further), and their prices are the best ive seen.....full power loads, good quality, and affordable prices, all in one package.

I have a rule. Never shoot another man's reloads.

Virgin Star-line brass is used so they aren't reloads.

Underwood is in all of my carry guns (except my duty weapons, agency only allows their provided ammo). I have run Underwood for some time now. It's a fantastic round at a great price. I typically will purchase his Gold Dots. I was hoping to get some for my CM9 purchase (only 9mm I own) but he is out. Have plenty in the other calibers I own though and only wish I could carry this stuff in my duty firearm! When I'm at the range, using my H&K USP 40 with Underwood loads, people come over to me thinking I'm firing a big arse hand cannon and crap when I tell them it's my 40 cal. Love it!

I have to wait until he gets more 9mm made. I picked up some 124+p Golden Sabres in the meantime. Have to just make due with the underpowered loads lol :p

I just shot a bunch of Underwood +P ammo yesterday... first, 30 rounds +P 90-gr GDHP through the P380. After the first two 6-round mags, I put my glove on my gun hand! That's stout stuff. I kept it on for the PM45 and XD45 firing the +P 230-gr .45 ACP... another stout load! Switching back to standard FMJ felt like a .22LR!

I'm trying to get a post together on that... didn't get the contrast in the background for flashes that I wanted... too much lighting now. Maybe I need to carry a large black background with me!

ive found that some rounds are excessive in recoil than others depending on the gun theyre fired from.

i use standard pressure stuff for all of my mini guns except for G26 and G29.

Dang! You reckon? I fired both... my mini PM45 and my cannon the 5" XD45 Tactical.
