My daughter is about to get her CHL and is looking for a gun for concealed carry. She and I were at a gun show today and saw a pink Kahr 380. She fell in love with that gun. I did a little research and found that the Pink 380 was a limited production run by Kahr. I think they were produced in 2010, but I'm not sure. I have read on this forum that many people have had problems with the P380 and I am a little leary of this gun. Has anyone had any experience with the Pink 380?

Keep reading posts on the p380 and they might help you decide. Sometimes the saying “When in doubt Don't ” has merit. If it was my daughter I would want her to have a gun that I don't have doubts about.

My reliable source tells me the new P380's coming off the line and actually for the last year or so are predominately trouble free.
They did in fact have quite a few issues in the past and we still hear about a lot of them. But new are suppose to be good.
That being said as you already stated I don't think Pink is available anymore.
Also I'd lean towards at least a 9 for her like the CM or the PM.
If she's dead set on pink there are places that can coat it in just about any shade she desires.
Or if your set on 380 you could do the same. Get it, shoot the heck out of it to make sure it's solid and then pink it.
If it wouldn't ruin my image as a tough guy derelict I wouldn't mind a little pink of my own. Boy am I gonna hear about this.

Thanks for the response guys. Bawanna, I agree with you on the 9mm. Although I have carried a .38 Special snubby on occasion, 9mm is usually the smallist caliber gun I will carry. I have taught her to shoot with my K9 and PM9. She will be taking her CHL test using my K9. She loves it but considers it to large for her to conceal. She shoots really well, especially with the K9. I think I will continue to incourage her to go with a PM9 or Cm9.

Don't consider this sacriligious, but I have a Taurus 738 TCP that is well less than half the price of the P380 and has a good reputation. New ones can be purchased in PINK.

You can get them with the brushed SS or blackened SS slides. The gun is very narrow, with a slide release that is compact and only sticks out about 1/8", yet is easily operable and locks the slide open on last round. (I think the slide release on the P380 is enormous on a gun meant to be as narrow as possible. JMHO.) The trigger is light and smooth. Unlike the Kahr, it has has a tiny step near the end of pull so you can take up the slack, refine your aim and then fire. The tiny metal sights are molded parts of the slide and are only useful in bright light. But the gun naturally points very well for close up SD work. Lasers can be bought to fit them. I am very happy with mine! :D

We have 3 or 4 of those floating around the dept. A couple pink ones for officer wives. They aren't a bad gun. I don't consider them near the quality of the Kahr but they seem to like them and they are small and thin.
I've heard of issues on a few of these as well but so far no problems with the ones at work. Might not be a bad option.

I just gave my daughter a pink P380 for her 21st birthday. The gun fired 150 rounds relatively trouble free. The only problem experienced was the magazine catch not engaging without force. This was remedied by filing down the front 'toe' of the magazine base plate of both magazines. It has been completely trouble free since.

Thanks again for the help. However, my daughter made up her mind. We went back the the gun show today and she bought the pink P380. We went back to my house, cleaned and prepped the new P380 and then went to the gun range to begin the breakin. I was supprised at how accurate the little gun was. As far as we are concerned, the gun was perfect. The only problem was one round that would not go fully into battery. It seemed to have a very slight bulge in the case (WWB). Everything else fed perfectly. It was the fault of the one bad round, not the gun. She is very happy with her purchase and so am I even though I encourged her to go with the PM9.

Congratulations! :) You chose the Cadillac of 380 pistols, IMO. Did you get the brushed stainless or the DLC black stainless slide? And the Sarge is here to remind you...

Ive been trying to find the perfect small gun (380) for my girlfriend. Shes a small girl, so im trying to convice her it would be really hard to her to hide anything else. I of course want the kahr p380 for her, but shes not set on it (im worried about her racking the slide as well) We test fired a tcp a while ago, and the trigger was extremely stiff, and didnt have a clean break to it at all. Is this something they fixed from the first run, or did we just end up with a crummy test gun? (jfootin always get me started on something...)

Must have been because the trigger is great on my gun. A little lighter than my CM9 with the 5 lb striker spring in it. It has a gentle step near the end so I can stage it, refine my aim and then fire. I wish my Kahr had that! I took it to my gunsmith to polish the feed ramp and smooth anything else on the inside, clean and lube it. He just charged me $30 and he even test fired it to check for proper functioning! :) When I got it back from him, he commented about the great trigger. He is the smith who got the double action trigger pull down to 4.25 lb on my S&W 638, so when he compliments a trigger it means something! Also, for some reason (maybe the grip shape or something) it is not as punishing a gun to shoot as the LCP or P3AT. A friend of mine had an LCP and sold it, later buying a TCP. He is the one who told me this. The P380 may be a little milder, but at twice the price I'm not going to bite. Now, a CW380 might temp me, but probably not. I am delighted with my TCP! :D
BTW, I got my smith to polish the feed ramp after my first brief range trip, in which I had several bullets FTF with the nose stuck on the almost vertical ramp. A tap of the slide would feed it the rest of the way. No nose dives. The quality of the mags is superior to Kahr, IMO. The shooter may be the culprit in the misfeeds. :001_huh: I have weak, partially paralyzed hands and wrists, so maybe I was limp wristing it a bit. The gun has quite a bit more kick than my CM9. Like all pocket 380s, it is light as a feather so not much mass to absorb recoil, and it has a short slide stroke, leaving the shooter with a strong kick. But with healthy hands and a firm grip, it should be fine. IMO, with such an inexpensive gun and it being a Taurus, a once over and a ramp polishing by a smith or d.i.y. is not a bad idea. My CM9 was finely polished and smoothed inside and out before I bought it, and I got that great trigger job done on my 638. A little extra attention to detail on one's carry pistols is prudent, IMHO.

PYROhafe, my daughter actually looked, held, felt, and examined the Kel-Tek P3AT, Taurus TCP, Ruger LCP, as well as the Kahr P380. All were avaliable at the gun show and all were pink. Of course she was unable to shoot any of them but handling them helped her make her decision. She was used to shooting my Kahrs so she was biased. She is extremely happy with her pink Kahr.
If you have the opportunity let your girlfriend handle all of the available choices, and if possible shoot them. Choosing a gun is a personal thing. She needs to be happy with what she carries.
