OK instead of totally hijacking the k9 thread, I figured I would just post this as a new thread.
I currently own/carry my cm9. Im looking to continue my training and was thinking a full size metal kahr would make for easier training. So should I go with a a k9 (or other full size kahr) or should I do my training with the smaller, slightly harder to shoot cm9?
As always.... ANY input is greatly appreciated!

Carry a CM9? Train with a CM9. I carry 2 different guns, and I always shoot those 2 carry guns when at the range....always! :)
My opinion....for training always shoot what you intend to carry until qualified. For practice, there's more leeway but keep it close. Pretty much goes for ammunition as well.
In your example, I'd consider an MK9 or a PM9 a close. K9's a good gun. I have one and like it, but don't consider it an acceptable substitute for my edc PM9 in maintaining currency.

Thanks for the input fellas! I was thinking the longer/heavier/larger capacity gun would make training easier on my part, but I guess sticking with your carry piece makes sense.

Count me in as another who says to train with what you carry.

I'm a firm believer in keeping the platform the same on all carry guns rather than radical changes in operation.
That being said a small Kahr and a large Kahr even a T operate exactly the same. The larger will of course have a larger grip, better sight radius and all but still the trigger and what you have to do to go bang remains the same.
As others mentioned I always shoot at least a few rounds thru my carry gun/guns whenever I make it to the range.
My excellent spidey senses tell me that you really want another gun and I think you deserve one so be it K or T or whatever do it.
When the weather permits (all year round for me) you can carry that K or T or whatever on your belt and use the PM/CM for backup or let it have a little vacation.
I've went an muddied the waters again haven't I. It's almost a fortee with me.

As it has been beaten into me by trainers with Defense Training Intl, DES Training and others, you must train with your normal gear. You need to stress your gear to the absolute limit in training to find out what works and what breaks. Training is the time for you to have equipment malfunctions and have gear break -- NOT during an actual encounter with a VCA. The first light I took to a training course ended up being thrown away. The first holster I took to a training course ended up being thrown away. The first knife I took to a training course ended up being put away in my knife drawer and I bought a new EDC knife. I love OWNING and SHOOTING a Hi-Power but I will not carry one because I don't consider them to be battle pistols.
These are all examples of how you can learn if you take your normal gear and train hard with it. Don't you want to KNOW whether or not you can really count on that gear?

Well.. I like the idea of having one handgun and having it with you all the time. Trouble is I like handguns to much to only have one or even two just alike.
Now some wouldn't have issue with having a Kahr CW9 and occasionally spelling it with a Kahr K9 (I seriously prefer the K9, the wife prefers the K9 but can not operate the slide to her satisfaction). But then see I like the little Ruger SP 101 also, uumm so does the wife.. tis why we have pairs of the K9 and the SP 101.
I personally do not have issue with training with a slightly larger handgun than say the CM or P or MK 9 BUT I totally agree with shooting what you carry every time you hit the range. Wish I had the funds to burn thru 100 rounds of my carry ammo every trip as well.

Trigger time is always good, no matter the gun. Shoot every type of gun with good marksmanship habits and it will pay dividends if the SHTF...
Doing it with your EDC is best, but shooting other guns well is not bad at all. I split time in the EDC rotation with as many as five guns. I carry differently based on precived threat and wardrobe requierments.
That said which should I practice with...
...All of them, cause range time is fun time.:D

If you get the K9 you'll never want to carry the plastic gun. I haven't shot the plastic Kahrs, but I know there are differences and for me the K9 is such a great shooting gun I'm willing to heft a few more ounces because I like it so much.
Having said that, I've ordered a CW45 only because they don't make a K45. :D

I practice with every gun that I own. It keeps them from feeling neglected and lonely. There's nothing sadder than an unhappy gun. :)

I'm all about shooting various guns in my collection and do so often. But it can't be said enough, your EDC should be the one you shoot and train with every time. That particular weapon should be second nature for you.

Train with what you carry, and then have fun with ALL your guns!
Also, if possible, I shoot one magazine of carry ammo every time. This is not only good practice, but your carry ammo stays fresher, and you don't have to worry about bullet set back, or other feed problems that come with racking a round over and over again.
When ever I have to load and unload my carry gun in between range trips I put the chambered round in the empty magazine first. Hopefully this keep feed problems to a minimum. Now, I haven't had any feed problems with my pm9 since it's been broken in but, I like to increase my odds for success.
