Got me a new CM40 last Wednesday :) Shoots fantastic, which is good because the CM9 I used to have shot very well too. A tad more recoil, but I'm very pleased with it for the most part. The only thing is that after about 15-20rds my mag follower broke :( But it still worked...then it broke again....but it still works mostly. It also came in white cardboard box, all my other past Kahrs had the black plastic box, but that's not an issue for me.

From time to time it will nosedive a round which I attribute to the follower being broken, as it didn't do this prior to the follower breaking. Kahr was contacted yesterday and sent out a new follower, hopefully several or I'm going to be contacting them rather often. I have read some on here concerning this known issue, and am surprised Kahr hasn't fixed it. What would be so hard about making a metal follower?

Has anyone on here found a homemade cure for this issue? Other than the follower, I'm very pleased with it. Ran some rounds through the Chrony and factory 180's run around 950 fps avg. 165's around 1100 fps and 155's a little higher still. Some handloads got the 180's past 1000 and some 200gr Noslers around 900-975...which is faster than I can throw a 200gr out of my G30sf...and it has a longer 3.78" bbl. Not bad at all, quite the pocket powerhouse.

I can't imagine shooting a CM/PM40. I have a ported P40 and it's like shooting a +P 9mm, maybe... possibly a little sharper recoil than my PM45.

I carry the Speer 165-gr Gold Dots in my P40. It's hard to beat the bonded Gold Dots for a defensive round. I chose the 165-gr based on muzzle energy and max range of the 3 GD's. Speer only offers the Short Barrel version in 180-grain, though, or I would have GDSB's. I even use the +P Gold Dots by Buffalo Bore in my P380. I prefer bonded bullets and proven designs.

I've only had one follower break and that was on a K9 mag that I was trying as a P40 mag, since I don't really use the K9 mags as such, except for the range in my PM9. I finally put the replacement follower in the mag yesterday and then had the first FMJ bang into the right side of the feed ramp of my PM9 and hang. I had to drop the magazine to clear the pistol. I took pliers and bent the forward part of the right feed lip inward just a tiny bit... tough steel! Then I bent the left one to the left a hair as well. I fine sanded the lips a bit and with one more tweak all was well, except for setback on a few of the factory reloads after four passes through the magazine in racking the slide vigorously!

In your conversations with Kahr CS, you might ask them if they could rework the barrel to prevent it from impacting and breaking the follower. If you break enough followers, their cost should be a wash, even picking up your shipping cost for you with a prepaid label.

If you are brave, removing a very small amount of metal from the end of the ramp (preferably polishing it away with a small rubber abrasive wheel while maintaining the original shape) will eliminate the problem. At least, it did for me on both my PM40's. But, don't be impatient like me. Give Kahr a chance to get it right for you.

Best of luck!

Wynn, yes the CM40 does jump a bit, but it's not bad at all really. It's sprung so tight and I think that helps out a good bit. More recoil than the CM9 I had, but not really that much more...not painful or bothersome at all. Gold Dot's are a great choice, I'd be interested in the Underwoods 155/165/180gr Gold Dot offerings. They should still retain good numbers from the short 3" bbl, but really I was pleased to see factory stuff still going quite well, in some instances it wasn't much slower at all than loads from the 4" G23.

Tucson, yes I had seen something posted about the barrel feed ramp hitting the follower, and that looks to be the case. Seems like a very simple fix to me, but I will keep on asking for followers until...well...the cows come home if that's what it takes...maybe they'll get the message in time.
