View Full Version : CM Suddenly fails to extract

After 600 perfect rounds my CM started to fail to extract after 20 rounds and two different 6 rd magazines today. Gun fires, resets the trigger and then clicks when I try to fire again. I drop the magazine and rack the slide and it ejects the spent brass. It ejects when I rack snap caps or live American Eagle rounds by hand. Field stripping shows nothing obvious. I don't understand why it is not stove piping when the slide goes forward. Could it not be going far enough to the rear when firing? Need help before I call Kahr.
Thanks, dfdann.

Anything else change. Same American Eagle ammo before. Gun cleaned prior to last range visit like before and lubed?
I kind of agree with you that the slide isn't traveling quite enough to spit them out. Low powered ammo will do that but American Eagle is usually trouble free or at least has been for me.

Nothing else changed. Have shot 400 straight rounds of American Eagle since Kahr recommended it to me for my P380. I clean, blow out the striker hole and lubricate every 50 rounds.

It does this every time now, fail to eject or once in awhile?
AE ammo has has known lots that give problems in some pistols... the P380 being one of them.
Underpowered ammo is the cause

try anutter brand of ammo to see what gives. gotta start somewhere. Strange for sure. Sometimes a new recoil spring solves alot of nitty issues. again gotta start somewhere, u need to eliminate all the possables before calling kahr. If u got no new recil assembly then I would call kahr and ask for Jay and run by ur issues and qauestion them as to if they think maybe it could be recoil spring related. The fact tha tu can hand rack with success should be also discussed with kahr..

I'm stuck on the underpowered ammo scenario myself with CJB. The recoil spring is actually too strong to allow it to fully cycle.
A call as Jocko said to Kahr won't hurt a thing but I too would try some different ammo. I apparently have never gotten the weak stuff but that don't mean there isn't some out there.
Keep what you have as after a few more rounds it may work just fine.

Clean the chamber really, really, really, really good (maybe even polish) and behind the extractor too.
This has fixed 2 different pistols in our house lately (none of them were Kahr's though, they were a LCP w/ 1000 rounds through it and Bersa 9mm.)

I agree with CJB, doesn't mean I agree with the great one. He kinda likes to hang on the shirt tails of the "BRILLIANT" people. Just sayin
Its called delusions of grandeur..

I like yqtszhj's shirt tails too. Could help the issue.
Wait,.......does that make him brilliant too. I would think so.
Delusions of grandeur? You must have your dictionary open today. Them is mighty tall words for an Indiana boy.

Went out in the backyard this morning and shot two magazines of Lawman, and one magazine of of Hornady Critical Defense without a problem. Failure to extract sure seems to be a ammo problem even though I have shot a lot of American Eagle without difficulty. Will test further next week at the range. Thanks for the suggestions.

With the slide locked back, you can try to slide the rims of the cases under the "claw" from the bottom, as they would be loaded into position during chambering. Some rims may be thicker or rougher than others. Maybe some polishing of the breech face and the claw's bearing surfaces is due.

Went to range Wednesday and CM9 failed to extract with Lawman and American Eagle. It's on the way back to Kahr today.
