View Full Version : PNC Bank, a minor rant
Went over to see a longtime friend, and since she and I have had some mutually agreeable business togther - eBay stuff - it was decided to open an account at her bank, PNC, and put both our names on it.
The ever friendly staff says - "I need to see two forms of ID".
So, ol lackey-boy here whips out his Flori-duh drivers license, and his Flori-duh CWP (CCW for the rest of you).
Staff did not ape-mung on me directly, for the CWP, instead they just politely handed the CWP back, and said it was not a legally valid form of ID.
Not wanting to make a scene... I asked what IS legally acceptable (and the legally part is a load of horseshit on their part, just so ya know).
Staff says - "We can take a social security card, or credit card".
Ok folks, what in hell is wrong with me? I proceeded to inform staff, that every wet-back sonofabitch carries a fake social security card, and you can get 'em that look real for ten bucks on any street corner downtown. With that, you can then go get a prepaid "credit card" that looks like a real one, says VISA, and nobody knows is prepaid, unless you do the research with the issuing bank.
Then I went off on her... Informed staff that I had to show more valid ID than a damn SS card, get fingerprinted, get sniffed by the FBI, get sniffed by the State of Florida, have all my crap verified, signed, sealed, and correctly dotted and crossed, which I don't have to do for even a drivers license. Then I told staff that they had the personally unmitigated gall to say that this card, with the holograms and pictures (two) are not a good ID - by law. There is no such law.
And then I REALLY went off on her, because she had just finished opening accounts for a bunch of damn ILLEGALS. How do I know they're ILLEGALS? First off, there were six men, all opening one account, each being on the account. Second, and I was mere feet away from her desk, sitting my plump behind on the banks sofa, I heard her tell them that not having green cards didn't make a difference.
So there. Screw me, hooray for them.

You should take that story to the Florida AG office and have them start an investigation into the business practices of PNC. Thanks for the heads-up.

You go CJB. Wish I'd have been there with ya. We could have had some real fun.
I was in a bank friday by coincidence, had to sign something for a new debit card and get my son a credit card to get some credit established but they didnt do nothing to piss me off like they done you.
I think you did good not burning the place down. I think I probably would have.
Withdraw your loot first, just makes sense.

Regions bank is no better (in my area anyway.) If you're lucky they might get your deposits and withdrawal's right. If you need anything else they're stupid.
The wife opened an account there and they sent a debit card and checks to an address that we haven't lived at for 4 years in another city. I saw that and asked the "girl in charge" that had been shoe shopping on the internet before we walked up where they got that address. They didn't know. I then told them that I wanted to close that account since it had been compromised and open another one. They told me they would have to charge me $30 for closing out the account in the first 30 days. By that time I had had it. Right in the middle of the lobby I said in I guess a loud voice "So let me get this straight, you are charging me $30 because you all are incompetent and send my information to the wrong house?"
The whole place went silent and everyone started looking at me. They then said "OK, we'll give you a new account." I told them never mind, give me my money and I'm outta here. They were more than happy to get me out of there then.

Back in the 90s, Regions bank didn't even have a Web presence where you could make payments on a credit card. They are incompetent and behind the times technically. I closed that account, too, and went elsewhere.

Two words: Credit Union. Went to one a couple of years back now, and haven't looked back. Much more betterly.

Yup. And remember: don't screw with old guys, they've already experienced what you're about to do and are ready.
Was telling a friend today, getting old, and grey hair... first its your beard and facial hair and sideburns, then spreads out... chest hair goes grey. Then the stomach, then by some advanced age, if you got any pubic hair left... I suppose that goes grey too. If you're fortunate enough to actually have hair on your head... that too will go. Mine hasn't yet.... dunno why.

Me and my sis. Same smile, same nose... same gut!
And for what its worth, I pulled out my Visa from my own bank, played their game, and am on the account now.
This whole affair is only in the unlikely event that I'm needed in some emergency to access that particular account. We sell a few things on eBay, have the PayPal listed there. We never buy from it, its a "selling only" account on eBay where we sell crap that we come across thinking other folks might be interested in it. We both did some seed money in the account, made a few sales, withdrew the seed money, and have not split the whopping couple of hundred "sales money" yet. I've know my friend for damn near thirty years (yes Jocko... old...), and we work well together. She set it all up, I'm just the emergency fallback on it, and am cool with it - but not cool with PNC's attitude.

Been with one credit union or another since the early '80s and have not looked back. Now I'm with Navy Fed and only Navy Fed and couldn't be happier.
And keep this in mind, over the past few years with all of the bank failures, have you ever heard of a credit union going under? I'm not sure if any have but I haven't heard of one.

+1 on navy fed. My sons joined so I opened an account too. I applied for a car loan at 11pm one Friday night online, by 3:30 am I got a text they just needed a faxed payroll stub to approve. I faxed it at 5 am and by 10:30 am Saturday morning I was approved and on the way to get the wife's new 4runner. I'm Transfering most all my money there in the next month.

I used to deal with PNC bank. Then one day I walked into the branch and noticed that something was very different. Seems all the little American flags that were at every station were taken down along with the large American flag that always stood in the corner. I asked about it and they said it came down from the top to remove them. Seems they didn't want to offend anyone.
I said really are you kidding? They said no they were not. I said well as a 4 year Navy Veteran I'm not kidding either and closed all my accounts. Transfered it all over to the the local police and fire credit union. I like the way they treat there customers, and the way they do business with the local cummunity, and there American flags.
Screw PNC Bank. I will not do business with any business that feels it's not politically correct to fly the American flag.
So, I'm just askin' (as I duck behind this large rock) if you ever did open the account?
The account was already open - I only had to become a check signer on it, for emergency purposes. I let her do the money (fool?), and I handle logistics. She already has a business that some of the stuff moves thru. Its all job field related, one man's junk is another man's treasure sort of thing.
I don't really give a rats rosette about PNC. They perform a service, thats all.

Whenever I'm asked for a picture ID I whip out my CCW permit. I enjoy seeing all of the blood drain out of their faces. Don't know if it's caused by the ID or the picture. Hmmm.

My NC CC Permit has no picture on it, so it cannot be used as a photo ID. I have a separate, folding leather piece with two clear windows that is removable from my wallet. I have my driver's license in one window and my CC Permit in the other so I can hand it to a police officer when requested. My car has a slot in the dash near the left side where I can put my wallet when going to a fast food drive-up, and I can put my ID wallet in there in case of a traffic stop. In NC, we are required by law to inform any police officer who is IDing us that we have a permit and are carrying.

I've been with my credit union for over 30 years and always received super good service. It's nice to speak with a person who listens and can work things around for you instead of fitting you into a slot, even when it means slightly bending their standard rules. Maybe having a 5 digit account number helps too.

Oops. Found out my drivers license had expired, therefore of no use. Asked for any other govt. issued photo ID, I offered my Texas CHL. Next thing I knew, I was in that glass room with an armed guard. Won't do that again.
