I was watching the LSU-Auburn football game Saturday and when the game was over and the coachs went to shake hands I noticed that the Louisiana State Patrol Officer guarding LSU coach Les Miles looked to be a one more very BAD A$$ no nonsense kind of dude...He was a real big guy in his mid 50's with a flat top and a scowl on his face that said, "Go ahead, punk, just think of doing something stupid and it will be your final thought on this earth" and when he turned so that his gun faced the camera I couldn't believe it but his duty weapon was a beautiful blued S&W revolver in an old style low carry holster and a Sam Brown belt with exposed bullet loops filled with .357 mag cartridges and I thought yep, thats an old school deep south "You in a heap a trouble boy" lawman right there and it just looked so right to see blue steel and wood instead of a big blob of unidentifiable black plastic...
I wonder how many LEO's still carry revolvers for duty weapons by choice...I suppose if something has worked well for over 100 years of dealing with bad guys then why change....:86:

LOL
I'm not LE, but don't think any U.S. LE issues revolvers.
Or that they are allowed as primary guns.
They are allowed as off duty, and back up secondary guns,
by some departments I believe.
My understanding is that the Speer Short Barrel 38+P ammo was developed at LE request.
Also some departments disallowed snubbies for backup guns.
And when folks stopped carrying a backup reinstated the snubbie.
You've got to love those J-Frames.

I have a friend on the Philly Police Dept who still carries his old S&W revolver on duty. He's just not a big fan of semi auto pistols.

there are a few (very few) old timers who are grandfathered in to still carry a wheel gun as a primary service weapon. that being said, id like to think the ones still that do would be smart enough to use modern speed loaders instead of dump pouches or belt loops for spare ammo.

Heck, old man Harry still carries his .44 mag (MMD), saw him just the other night on TV. Shoot, you know ya got a big one when you have to stretch your elbow waaaay out there to draw it from your shoulder holster.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that he was probably in an older, perhaps ceremonial use, uniform and carrying a personal gun that went with his Sam Brown rig. I suspect during the day, at his his real job, he wears the current uniform and sports the current issue

Yea I'm pretty sure you are right and since he was off duty working as a body guard for a coach he could carry whatever he wanted but it sure looked cool and vintage...
I don't know if every college does this but at the University of Georgia coach Mark Richt's State Trooper bodyguard is the same guy and has been for years...Now thats some sweet detail time unless they are playing at LSU and for that place I wouldn't carry anything less than a M-16 and a shotgun, thats one more crazy place for a rival college football team to play a game!!!...
