I told y'all shooting that 629 last weekend had messed with my head, so since Saturday I've been searching the hinterlands for a silhouette match pistol.
Pulled the "Buy It Now" trigger on this early, no-dash 1984(?) 686.
Comes with a speedloader and original stocks.
Funds are in the mail.
Can't wait to get it into the hands of my local smith.
Wha'dya think?

Next I need to figure which way to go for mounting a Match Dot.
A new Smith project is always exciting. :)

Thing looks minty to me, hardly a line on the cylinder.
I hope there's some sort of mount that will fit utilizing the rear sight mount holes. It would break my heart to see any drilling and tapping going on with a no dash 686.
I've been looking for quite a spell myself and they don't turn up often and always when I'm broke, go figure.

Two questions:
1. Are you broke right now?
2. How sad are you feeling about it getting tapped?
:)

Two questions:
1. Are you broke right now? As usual.
2. How sad are you feeling about it getting tapped? Very, very sad.
:)
One question: Do you care if I'm broke or if I care?

Absolutely care, brofus.
I cared enough to look for a NO-DRILL mount for it!

You rock! I do feel much better, thank you so much!
I'd probably line the gun with tape or something to protect the finish but that's kind of over the top. Hope it fits secure and works well for ya. If you gotta tap, you gotta tap, just keep me in the dark and who would know, ya know?
As nice and practical as they are for what your doing I never could warm up to a scope or sight on a revolver, just don't seem natural to me. Kind of like a scope on a thutty thutty, just ain't right. Course some say I ain't totally right either so maybe it don't matter much.

Sad Fact:
Old Fekker + Tri-focals + 50yd Silhouettes = Red Dot :o

Yeah, sometimes facts really clash with reality. I do understand. And I'm right there with ya, well not physically in any mano mano way but in my heart ya know?

I've only shot three silhouette matches so far.
In all three of them, I sucked badly in the iron sight class.
But I rocked in the optics class!
I'm even thinking of selling my extra, iron sight barrel for my Model 41.
How 'bout them apples?!

Would that be a 5" iron sight barrel or a 7" iron sight barrel. If it's a 5" we may need to talk some.

My wife already hates you. If it goes on the block do let me know, not sure I'd be able to scoop it up very soon but I'd sure want to.
Been a long time since I even looked to see what they are worth.

I have that same gun in Nickel. Had an Agent, it got stolen 35 years ago and the Cobra is what I replaced it with. Great guns.
