View Full Version : K model trigger mods - any interest?

Hi all - first time posting, but loong time lurking...
I have developed a drop - in part for kahr pistols that will shorten the trigger stroke, lighten pull and give a cleaner break. NOT a SHORT stroke, because that defeats why most of us chose the kahr's in the beginning, but something you'll definitely notice. It's currently with my machinist for pre-production development. I'm wondering what the level of interest is. I don't expect it to be expensive, and the trigger doesn't need to be removed on the steel models to install it. What say you? Thanks, Steve

Very interesting....
Welcome to the forum! :) If you have pics, email them to me and I'll post them for you.
So, it will work in the poly guns, but requires trigger removal?

will this work for the carbon steel models? those suckers need the trigger shortened for sure...

Thanks Jfootin, I have some pics of my cw9 and the covert job I did on it, but none I want to disclose on the part I mentioned. you're correct, the trigger needs to come out on the poly models, but I actually developed this in my cw40 and then followed up with it in my cw9 and my k9. I'm thinking of offering it to the steel gun guys first, because of ease of installation. Pulling triggers is a bit "interesting" but I would do a youtube video on installation for whatever model the part would be going into.
I'll email the covert pics if you're interested - and thanks - steve

I'm interested :)
I'm guessing (as the trigger has to come out of the poly guns, but not the steel guns), that the cocking cam is involved. JF, as you mentioned removing the trigger on the poly guns, are you thinking the same?

Oh, don't delay it for us poly guys. I would have my gunsmith do it; let him watch the video and figure it out if he doesn't already know his way with a Kahr trigger assembly. But it's not something I would try to do myself.

What a nice gesture. I will, actually be coming through to Sarasota an about 10 days to 2 weeks. I live in Gainesville. I would love to shoot, and write my reactions here for others. We will be in touch!

Very astute! I wish the poly's were easier to do, but the way I see it, if the steel gun guys try it and create some "buzz" then the guys with poly will be more likely to take it on. I have developed a small tool to make the installs something that can be done easily, particularly in the steel guns. The steel kahrs I've worked on were non - elite triggers, and I have some dimensional changes that can accomadate either of the trigger systems. I should have an idea within a week or so if this will be financially feasable, but I've been down the road before of bringing items to market, so I feel this is a strong candidate. Steve

follow up - had a pretty long conversation with the machinist yesterday, we have a course of action planned. I think I'm going to do a short run and put them out for "beta testers" so I can get feedback, then we'll look into larger runs after that. If you're interested in being a beta tester standby for further instructions! :2eek: Steve

Hard to give a price at this point, but I really want to make it affordable, no more than 50.00. Pretty inexpensive when compared to gunsmith trigger work IMO. How's that price sit with you? Steve

If it's really a simple drop-in, certainly I'll give it a try. If the first one works, I have 2 others to do.

i'd be interested in beta testing. i shoot IDPA with my K9 and could certainly put it through its paces and give detailed feedback.

Beta testers will get a substantial price break. some local floridians are starting to line up. I have a couple machinists consulting, we'll see where it goes - steve

Steve: Do you mean that it is a perceived lightening of the trigger or an actual reduction in the weight of pull. I would be worried about having any sort of "hair trigger" due to legal implications in the event of use. I am, however, very interested in the change if you can clarify this point.

It's a kahr. A long DA trigger is what makes it safe. I don't understand how anyone could make the trigger "perceptably" lighter without making it "actually" lighter. A kahr with a 5# trigger is preceptably and actually lighter, but it's not a hair trigger. A hair trigger would be one that is exceptionally light and has next to zero travel. That's not what I have done. The trigger I have done is lighter, and breaks cleaner, but you're still going to recognize it as your Kahr, but better. Steve

Count me in for one (my K9) and possibly a second one in my PM40.
I'd very much like to get in on the beta testing, but I've only got about 15,000 rounds of 9mm on hand. :33:

I installed my first Beta Tester Cocking Cam last week. Haven't seen any posts from him on it yet, but he acknowledged that the part did indeed make the trigger pull smoother. Let's see if we can get a post out of him - steve

Yup,
I would be THAT guy! Dry firing, I noticed a slight reduction in trigger pull and shorter trigger length. But today, I actually shot the gun on the range. I trigger pull is very responsive and definitely smoother minimizing the "jerk" upon firing. I am fortunate enough to have been able to visit Steve personally, for him to swap out the 2 pieces. My shots were very accurate, but I can't say they were better due to this mod. The trigger enhancement surly was noticed and appreciated. 2 Thumbs up!

I'd love to buy/try the trigger enhancement! I came here tonight to see what my K9 could sell for as I don't shoot well with the trigger as it is. NYPD trade-in, rumored to have an extra long travel or some such.
Anyway, your mods might improve my compatibility, and I'll be able to shoot more accurately... New shooter here, doing great with S&W model 41 at 50', so I know I can do better than I have been with the K9. Just shot a stainless CZ75B and immediately have tighter groups than I can achieve with the K9. Maybe mine is just a rattly junker, but it would be worth $50 to see if my problem with it can be improved.
PM me when you have parts I can try.
Thanks

Steve, I'm down in south county and have an unmolested steel k40 and happy to beta test. Also have a steel k40 with what used to be known as the elite trigger update for comparison.

I have emailed Steve a few times probably a month ago with no reply. Has anybody heard from him, who all beta tested for him and what were the results? I know there was one positive test any others? Odd with all this interest and no replies.
Thanks
