My 686 came in today.

1986

Straight to the gunsmith for inspection.

No trigger work needed.

Mounted the Match Dot then straight to the range to sight it in.

50 yd silhouettes gonna get PINGED.

started on paper to get it sighted in using my range bag as a rest

then shot the swingers without a rest

I'll tighten things up with practice.

Got it in my hands at 11am - shot it by 1pm. :)

How did the no drill mount work, feel good and solid for you.

It sure looks like it ought to get the job done.

I let my gunsmith mount it, and he did it right.

I'd have been pounding on it with brass punch. :o

The front "collar" slides down from the front of the barrel.

Seems tight, but only time will tell.

I'll only be shooting .38 wadcutters.

Like I tried to explain to Jocko, Doc, ya gotta look through the scope to shoot tight groups. Ya can't do it with yer eyes closed. :) Not bad for your first time out.

I have had the same type scope mount ( B-square if i remember correctly) on my 686 Classic hunter for over 20 years and it has never budged. Full power magnums and light 38 target loads whatever, it has held the Nikon 2X scope perfectly....
This gun is one of my wife's favorite due to the light recoil and extreme accuracy it has. I made a pistol rest for bench shooting and with this gun/scope she could just rip the center out of the targets with a light 38 hard cast semi wad cutter load I made up for her.

great pic, nice pistols!

the mount on my 686 is a discontinued Weaver #307 for early Smiths that weren't drilled and tapped.

Thanks, Maybe mine is a Weaver?, I put it on way too long ago for my memory LOL ... It looks and mounts just like yours, so I can say you shouldn't have any problems with movement.... Congrats on your new Smith and enjoy!

Doc I see the 41 barrel didn't meet minimum, you gonna list it again or getting any bites elsewhere?

I'm just as poor as I was before so it don't matter, just wondering.

Thanks!

Couldn't help but go back today and shoot it for the second time.

(But nothing I own compares to the M41 at 50yds.)
