I looked down at my wife's CW9 the other night and the white "bar" on the rear sight is missing. It has just happened in the past couple of days. I don't know how this happened. I never knew it was an insert. I just thought it was painted. Has this happened to anyone? If so, what did you do about it?

You are correct. It is painted. The area where the paint sits is just lower than the surface around it, possibly to make it easier to paint or to keep the paint out of harm's way.

Mine disappeared from both the front and the back. So, there is now a "poor man's gold bead" in the front and I "repainted" the rear with a gold decorative pen style marker. The gold dot has held up very well. The rear is still there, but will probably need to be refreshed a couple times a year. I can live with that.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info. I had been told to just paint it with fingernail polish if I wanted to go back white. Thanks again.

I've used white enamel craft or modeling paint and a toothpick to apply touch-up white to sights, and to highlight the ranges on my M1 and M1a sight knobs.

Some sights get loose after being doused in solvent or lubricants, too!

I don't lubricate my sights, but my newest P380's rear sight moved freely as I was wiping it down. I cleaned the sight and dove tail with alcohol and used RED Permatex on the sight and dove tail to hold it in place. I'll have to watch that it doesn't come loose again, though.

Don't use RED Loctite or Permatex... or Green Permatex on screws and threads that you need to be able to get apart, especially not on PLASTIC Threads... the union is stronger than the plastic... and considered PERMANENT on threaded unions!

Use Blue on threaded metal unions so you can separate them in the future. Read the requirements for "defeating" these bonds.

I use white epoxy enamel spray paint, also known as appliance paint for sights.
It is available at hardware stores and is very strong. I did my LCP with 3 dots years ago and have never needed to do it again...But if I did, one spray can should do about a million dots LOL. Just clean the area to be painted with alcohol, then spray some into the cap and use a tooth pick or a small brush to apply.

Tuscson- That gold bead front site mod is sweet, I like it, good work!

Thanks for the kind words, Mr. BEARDOG!

Oh, and I have used appliance paint too, the small bottle rather than the spray can. But, the small bottle dries up long before it is used up. Thanks for the tip on the spray can variety! It should work better on my rear sight. http://home.mindspring.com/~justsomeguy/thumbsup.gif

purple thread locker is weaker than the blue and thatis usually what most gun shops stock, I know Gander Mt, sells the purpole sh!t. Hold well but is a real Pu$$y to get loose . It is desinged for small screws..

I used my wife's French White nail polish applied with a tooth pick to the front sight. Seems to wear well.

It wouldn't bother me if mine fell off. I don't use the bar anyway.

If you clean your striker channel with non-clorinated brake cleaner, becareful not to get it on a painted surface. Paint removal the only drawback to using it.
