A guy's got one of these for sale at $325. Sharp looking gun, and beautiful grips! Any opinions?

I think they're pretty heavy but I don't recall hearing many bad reports. I'm not crazy about the looks, but at that price, I would say it's a deal.

I had one. Good quality gun. That one looks great with those wood grips! And that is a great price! Of course, try to talk him down anyway! :D

P.S. Mine was a 9mm.

LOL everything seems to be negotiable.
I didn't realize you could make successful counter offers on spanking new guns at a large high volume LGS.
But I bought both my NIB HKs at negotiated discounts.

I used to be a sucker and just paid retail.

Well, one LGS states that their prices are set and not negotiable on most guns. So, I go there to look at guns but buy somewhere else.

The story as I hear it is that Beretta bought Stoeger, shipped the Cougar machinery to Turkey, and now has the Cougar built as a Stoeger on the same machinery that produced the original, only with cheaper labor costs. I've heard good reviews on the guns from various sources, and not much bad. I have a Beretta in .40 and it's been totally reliable. I think that's a good price. I've seen the 9 going for around $350 here and there. Only thing that concerned me was was if the metal was the same quality, and from what I've read, the metal seems to hold up very well.

I got one of the Beretta versions for a detective here for duty years ago. I believe it was a 40, I shot it and a couple others and they were very good shooters. We seemed to mesh really well and they were plenty accurate for me.

I think Stoeger quality is pretty good and seems to be getting even better.

Perhaps a far stretch from a Wilson or an Ed Brown etc but pretty darn good for us common folks.

As I recall and I might be off on this they had a safety version and a safety dec0ck version. I much preferred the later as you dropped the hammer to safe and it went right back into ready to shoot mode but still safe to carry.

List price is about $500, according to the manufacturer's web site, which also lists the weight at 32 ounces (two pounds!).

For me 32 ozs is heavy, particularly for a 9mm carry gun. Here's is a picture of my current collection since I sold a S&W 3rd gen and an HK USP 45 Tuesday. The heaviest pistol in the picture weighs 32 ozs. Bet you can't pick it out.

Bottom right corner?

Bottom right corner?

Nope. That's a lightweight FS 1911 with an alloy frame and weighs 30 ozs. It's the second heaviest.

Well then I gotta go bottom left. No prize for second best right?

Looks like an all stainless Sig P220 middle right?
If so she's more than 32 oz - more like 38???

Wait, that's your nickel plated P220 right???
Tricked me again!!
should be close to 32 oz?? maybe 28/29

Crap, then I'll take the Kimber on the bottom row second from the right
(if she's all stainless???).

Yup, Yup the Kimber - Final Answer.

Your probably right, bottom left might be an alloy too. The size is deceiving.

This is an early carbon steel gun. Factory specs in 1992 stated an empty weight of 25.7 ozs.

Kimbers have alloy frames. Factory weight empty - 25 ozs.

Yup, Yup the Kimber - Final Answer.

Gotta be the Detonics then. I think the Springer is alloy. Tell me I'm a winner, I never win.

Give the man a cigar, two even since he identified the Detonics Combat Master. It's all SS inside and out, and weighs 32 ozs. I think it's probably the smallest 1911 made.

It's one of only two all steel guns in the picture, the other, of course, is the MK40 in the top row. All the others are either polymer or alloy. I'm a fiend when it comes to lightness.

I'd like to thank the academy and all the little people I walked (ok rolled over) to get to this prestigious award. Thanks for the help boosting me up onto the podium, stick around I'll need you to get down too, gravity is on my side but timing is everything on steps and curbs.

I'd like to thank my wife and my mother and my producer, well the list is endless, all my cyber brides of course, Odie the Wonder Beagle, you were always there for me.

Ok so it took 3 tries to get it right but at least I got it before Barth. That has to be worth something hmmmm?

I can never again say I'm a total loser. I'm puffing up just a little bit here.

How much does that Hi Point weigh? The red dot on it looks much cleaner than their rear sight. Nice work with that.

Thanks. The carbine is heavy - About seven pounds, I think. I had a 9mm that was stolen, so I replaced it with the 45 when they became available. I've used red dots on both. My range is only fifty yards on the rifle side, so that's where I sighted it in. When I got it ranged in, I could shoot a 3 inch group at 50 yrds with the 45. I'm not a long gun guy, so I'm happy with that. Both have been 100%, but I only have about 300 rounds through the 45.

Cougar's no longer listed. Must've sold. Guess what got my attention are 2 things:
1. Those good lookin "Bawanna-type" grips
2. The low price for a .45

Thanks for the input! Knew I could get some helpful info from you guys. Great collection, O'Dell.
