Service life of a PM9

Anyone have any solid statement from Kahr about the actual "service" life of a Kahr PM9 or PM40?

I know on their website it says that they've put "10,000 rounds through each kahr pistol" during the R&D phase of design, but was wondering how long these guns are supposed to last.

I have a PM9, and its my carry gun, and I like to shoot my carry guns extensively (~500 rounds a month).

Any and all info would be appreciated.

I don't think you'll wear one out. Might need a normal wear and tear spring or part but the gun will go a long long ways.

My real concern is availability of parts down the road... I know at least with my glock, I can readily obtain cheap and plentiful parts for a long time considering the percentages of glocks in LEO/Government roles....

As for the recoil assembly, would you just change the outer spring , or the whole assembly?
What interval would you change it?

I don't think you're likely to put enough rounds through a specialized self defense pistol, as you would a .22 pistol or plain jane 1911

Kahr's are not bad to shoot, but they are specialized, for carry/conceal mostly....
I can think of putting 20,000 down the tube of that Ruger P90 I had, but not a Kahr, even thought it would be up to the tast.

I claim it, I can prove it. doucumetend all that Sh!t back then along with my other guns. Kahrs ain't going anywhere, they are not a fly by night company.t hey are well estableisd in the gun industry. YOU AIN'T GONNA SHOOT OUT A KAHR. You might break sumpin but that goes for every gun out there. parts are there for ur gun if needed.

We tend to worry about sumpin that is just not gonna happen, . Some guns are just POS guns, so expect no more when buying one, You pay good money for a kahr but they are built like a damn tank. U normaly get what u pay for in a gun, be it a high dollar gun or a cheapo.

Seen this questioned asked on damn near every gu forum as to the life of that particular gun etc.

No doubt everything has a life to it or an ending life to it, INCLUDING US. and we can't buy parts either.

I remember once a kel teck tech person stating when asked the life of a kel teck handgun and he stated 6K. Now that sounded way way low IMO for any gun, but I had over 6K in one of my kt 380 and although loose as a goose it went bang. and IMO I would bet that 95%of kt owner who owned a 380 that was so so smalland so so light that they might have hit a 1000 rounds out of their gun and then they just carried it and no more range time given to it. It was not a fun gun to shoot, it was a defense gun. I had a bigger framed range fun gun...

I replace recoil springs as I feel the need to. Normally ur gun will let u know when it is time to change springs etc..It is all about propper timing in a semi for good reliabilioty and nrmally when things start to act up. just a change of recoil springs are ur back in business. My G19 is certainly thatway. When Iy glock guru, at accurate iron did some super work to my G19,his comment on the work order was change recoils springs often...

i dont plan to shoot my pocket guns that much where i have to worry about their service life.

yup ur right. but his question was a fair one no doubt been aksed many times on many forums. I have never seen a shot out kahr, glock, Ruger or even some of the numerous low priced pocket guns that we all know are meant to shoot seldom and carry often.

Most of these small ass pocket guns are just not pleasant to shoot alot of rounds out of. but they serve their design purpose perfectly.

Thank you both for your insight about the durability of the kahr, even with extreme amounts of ammo being run through them.

I have chosen to keep my PM9 black diamond, and use it as my primary EDC gun to replace my Glock 19.

Any holsters recommended for pocket carry?

Depends on how you want to carry. Garret's Silent Thunder is one of the nicest for IWB. Then you've got tons of other holsters for belts, pockets, ankles, chest/belly, and even "down under".

DeSantis Nemesis is my pocket carry holster of choice.

I've had my PM9 since 06, and it's one of two guns I qualify with every year under LEOSA. As of right now it's got 5700 rounds throught it, after shooting today It'll hit 6000. The only thing I've changed has been the recoil spring.
Just keep it well oiled.

DeSantis Nemesis is my pocket carry holster of choice.

These are good holsters. I experimented with a CM9/Nemesis for a number of months. I really, really wanted pocket carry to work because I hate screwing around with holsters. I'm retired, and I spend a lot of time in the summer in t-shirts and cargo shorts. I thought a pocket solution would be ideal.

Didn't work for me. Even that little CM9 was too much, what with the keys, the cell phone, the folding knife, the pocket change, etc. You put a pistol in your right pocket, you're down to one pocket, and, at least for me, the rest just wouldn't fit comfortably. In addition, I hated that big load in my front right pocket, especially when driving. (Shorts/pants aren't designed to sit down with that kind of load in the front pocket.)

On the positive side, I found that the pistol hides fairly well and I could get the CM9 out of my pocket at least as quickly as I could get a t-shirt out of the way and draw from a belt rig. It was faster out of cargo shorts than it was out of jeans (other tighter pants), but it surprised me how easy it was to get to. Maybe it will work for you, and it's worth a try since the holster is so cheap.

Much of the service life depends on the condition of the firearm as its being shot.

Shot in clean conditions - they tend to last a long long time.

Shot in adverse conditions.... depends... cleaning is much more crucial... dirt=wear.... so ... you can make 'em last if you make them clean - always.

I put perhaps... 40,000 rounds of 22LR thru my first Mark-I target... I put 1000 just to break it in well... in one night! Yes, 20 boxes. Then it got the Clark parts... and another 1000 ...

No worse the wear. CLEAN is the secret.

I've heard that Kahr pistols completely disintegrate after thirty two thousand and one shots. Don't know if that's true. Just sayin". :)
