View Full Version : New CM 9 Couple of Questions

Last night I cleaned and lubed my new CM and have a couple of questions. When re-assembling it the recoil spring likes to pop out through the hole for the rod in the front of the slide, should it be positioned in a specific way to not do this ?

Secondly, with the mag out and the slide locked back I can "slingshot" it w/o touching the slide release, is this ok ? Seems like inserting the slide release and making sure the spring in positioned on top of the nub is a bit dicey...I do it according to the manual and also checked with the slide off to confirm I'm doing it right, which I am but with the gun assembled it does NOT feel like the spring is pushing the release down like it does with the slide off. Normal or paranoia ?

Thanks, Pete

Hi Pete

Welcome to the forum! I am sure the cavalry will be here soon with all the informed answers. I don't think the slingshot is a problem. With the mag out there is no upward pressure on the release button so pulling the slide back slightly will drop the release and allow the slingshot. As for the spring, I have never had that happen. I don't know if it is something I was told or just some habit I developed but I always rotate the spring so the end is at 12 o'clock when I replace the slide. I don't think it really matters but I do it anyway.
Like I said the experts will be here soon to help.

Your now officially an expert. Good answers to both questions as far as I'm concerned.

The slide lock will want to pull down out of the way as soon as you take pressure off of it so that is perfectly normal.

I always position the spring end at 12 oclock as well, I don't recall why I do that either but I must have heard or read it someplace.

I think your ok Pete. Go forth and shoot stuff.

Thanks Guys ! Is that 12 o'clock with the slide right side up or on it's back ? Sunday is game day LOL....

I've had that spring thing a couple of times as well on my newish PM9. I just removed the spring/guide rod assembly and rotated it a bit. Reinstalled with no problem. I don't recall if the spring end was at 12 o'clock or not. Follow Bawanna's advice.

In a related note, I have also had trouble getting the slide to rack back far enough to replace the slide stop pin when re-assembling. The guide rod doesn't want to pass through the hole in the muzzle end of the slide. I have to lift the muzzle end of the slide ever so slightly when re-assembling to get the guide rod to pass through. I found an old thread in the Kahr-tech forum that mentioned this (page 26-29 if searching).

However, once together, it "shoots like I stole it"!!

Thanks Kraz, nice to know I'm not the only guy with this issue. It's tight as a tick now, hopefully a few hundred will loosen things up a bit !

I got to run 100 rounds of 115gr WWB and 25 handloaded 115gr JHP in a shoot-fest at friend's woodlot. Zero malfunctions and 2 other people commented on how easy shooting it is. Accuracy hard to judge because of informal targets but she ran well enough. Oh, and the suggestion with the spring was perfect, thanks Peep's !!
