Hi all. I have always carried my CM9 in a Galco pocket holster. I am thinking that I might want to use a different type of holster. I am not sure whether the CM9 would work better with an IWB or an OWB. I also don't know what type/brand would best.
I would appreciate any help you guys can give. My wife and I both love our CM9s, and I plan on carrying in the Winter too (at least until the CM45 comes out!):D

Holsters are kind of a personal thing and what one person finds works well might not work for another.

I've never really been a IWB guy but in the last year or so I've been trying it.

With a CM you have a short barrel and it's not difficult to cover with shirt or jacket, vest ect. A longer barreled gun benefits a bit more from IWB as the barrel sticking down is still covered by your pants rather than covering garment.

I've always found that OWB is more comfortable but there are some very good IWB that car comfy too.

I have a Garrett Silent Thunder for my 1911 and my PM45, I also have a PJHolster for my 1911. Both work very well when you find the "Spot".

IWB is kind of nice for quick on and off with a clip which is why I've been using them lately.

Those are just two, there are others and both of those will work with you to fit your needs.

Thanks Bawanna,
I will take your advice and check out different holsters at my LGS. I had paddle holsters suggested by a guy at the range, but will try all kinds and see what fits me best.:o

Just me but I'm not a fan of paddle holsters. I do use paddle mag pouches but just never been fond of paddle holsters for the gun.

I searched for years for the best solution. My latest favorite until a few weeks ago was a comp-tac infidel IWB, pretty comfortable and great adjustable retention. But I recently sold it here after trying a Remora. I have to say I couldn't be happier. I've run across a few folks here and there that don't like them (here mostly), but all in all they got good reviews and for $30 I figured 'why not'. I'm glad I tried it. For me, hands down the BEST solution for carry...and MOST COMFORTABLE carry method I've tried. I prefer IWB and the Remora couldn't work better for me. I can't see me switching or trying anything else at this point, the area that the Remora falls short IMO is not really being tuckable, but I don't personally do that. For me, it's too much to fumble with to draw. If I can't do shirt/jacket/coat covered IWB or pocket, I just take the chance and don't carry. For me, that's so infrequent it's a non-issue. Remora is my carry method whenever possible, then it's pocket, with a Desantis Nemesis.

For $30 I'd try it.

If you ultimately decide you prefer kydex, OWB or IWB, I would recommend comp-tac or maybe PJ holsters that are highly spoken of here. It's tons thinner (from the picts I've seen) over the comp-tac. I didn't know about PJ when I got my comp-tac.

Leather, can't help there, there are a zillion options out there and I've never been a leather guy to provide much input there...others here are the leather experts.

You can't go wrong with either a PJ or Crossbreed. I have a Crossbreed mini tuck and I absolutely love it. (However, you cant carry AIWB w/crossbreed, and if you get the leather wet it can suckm and its significantly more expensive) Any holster at a gun store is gonna be subpar IMHO.

It seems the PJ holster is probably the most popular on this forum. I tried on a nearly identical kydex holster at a gun show, they didnt have a Kahr bluegun but i tried with a Ruger LC9 blue gun. I was very impressed, felt alot like my crossbreed but different. I didnt have long enough to try it to give it a full evaluation, but it felt very nice.

If you go with leather I'd go with natural hide opposed to black. Ive heard the black coloring can rub off onto yer underpants (Ive also heard to go w/natural finish if you live in warmer climates b/c of sweating I believe)

In the winter i prefer a paddle holster. Easy to conceal because on the coat, easy to take off at home without removing the gun and still have it handy.

All you need is the right holster for that CM9: the PJ IWB Holster (http://pjholster.com/?page_id=37). I carry my CM9 in one at 8:00 (I'm a lefty), which would be 4:00 for a righty. I tell you the truth; that super thin, 1 ounce holster is so comfortable that it and the gun disappear from my perception. All day long. I even took a nap one afternoon and forgot I had it on. Realized it when I got up. I have to reach back there and touch the gun to confirm it is there - no kidding!

For my PM9 my most comfortable holster is my OWB eclipse by blade-tec. I use that holster at the 7:30 position. For IWB I use the PJ.
Good luck!!! The search for a holster that works for you can be one of the most frustrating
parts of carrying a gun.

It actually can be kind of fun and entertaining when you want to buy something but you can't afford a new gun. Probably why I have a drawer and several boxes of holsters huh?

If you prefer leather, I do whenever possible, check out Mernickle. He makes a PS6 OWB that will make that gun dissappear on your hip. Well you'll be able to see it if you look but the comfort level is superb.

I agree with Path, unless your in a very good gun shop most of the holsters are gonna be marginal at best.

Thanks for all the good advice.
Bawanna, it's funny you said that about it being something to buy when you can't afford a new gun......that is exactly what is happening here.
I will let everyone know how my search progresses.

I switch between 3 different holsters...Desantis Super Fly pocket, Galco ankle and custom IWB.

I prefer an OWB holster and have used one from High Noon Holsters since purchasing my PM9 several years ago. It is made from horsehide and wears very well. I wrote a review (http://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/highnoonpm9/highnoonpm9-1.htm) of it when I first got it and then added an update after having worn it for two years (primary CCW).

Here is a pic of it when it was brand new.....

Nice holster and great review. Do you have any pics of the holster and gun while being worn? I'd love to see the ride height.

I really like my Remora for my PM40. Check them out. Inexpensive and great warranty. No belt clip. Sticks in any position you want it, belt or not, even elastic workout shorts. You can purchase with or without sweat shield. Very comfortable IWB carry holster. JMO.

When I'm not wearing my Glock in my Comp-tac Minotaur (which I really, really love), or my CM9 in a Desantis SofTuc (which I really like, too), I have this...

(BlackPoint Tactical) In fact I just carried it tonight for the 10th or 11th time that I got it ... remember how much I liked it!
