My local gun shop has one of these. It's a basic plain jane 1911, GI sights, etc. Around 5 bills. The store owner (and this is a large high volume shop) told me if he was buying a 1911 right now, that's what he'd be buying. He proceeded to tell me to work the slide. It was like rubbing 2 pieces of lubed polished glass together. I have never in my life felt a slide so smooth. It made the Kimbers, Springfields, Ruger, Sigs, RIA, Rems, even Colts feel like they had grit in the slide. He said they have the out-of-the box reliability like the RIA are known for and do not need any slicking up or smith work like many folks do to their 1911's. It truly felt like a top notch gunsmith had done the magic on the thing.

I was really leaning towards the SR1911, and I am not crazy about the idea of a Filipino made 1911. Yeah, I know, it's just a hangup, but still....

If you ever get a chance to check one out, please let me know what you think of them.

I didn't even know Iver Johnson was back in business.

les strat,

The link you provided to Iver Johnson includes its own link to a review I did of an Iver Johnson "Trojan" back in March of 2010. The test pistol was manufactured for Iver Johnson by Sporting Arms Manufacturing (S.A.M.) in the Philippines. That pistol had some problems, but those I've encountered since have been nicely made, and appear to have benefitted from some of the comments I made to the company at that time.

Didnt they make a little 380 similar to the colt mustang? I heard the iver johnson one wasnt reliable though.

Only reason i remember it was because the gun was in the movie Goodfellas.

Thanks for the replies.

I have handled a lot of 1911's the last week or so. I just couldn't believe the slide was so smooth. It was not eye candy like a Kimber of even the Ruger.

I am probably going with the Ruger as I know they shoot great, look great, and is a name that will back their products. But I just couldn't get that glassy action out of my head on the IJ.

They had a Colt for ~$950. I just don't have the coin without selling/trading something, and I really don't have anything I want to move.
