I'm partial to the Beretta CX4 Storm carbine. It's short, ambidexterous, very reliable, uses ubiquitous Beretta 92 magazines and is easy to disassemble and maintain. Left or right side ejection... your choice, (a very neat feature)! Put the charging handle left, right or both. The flat top allows a variety of sights. Make the gun suit your own needs. Loads of fun.

Well, crap! Researched it. Now I "need" one. Maybe two...seems ideal for .40s.

the cx4 looks like a good gun to shoot - too bad it's $750
the keltec looks rather flimpsy - but folded? nice convenience
well well...

I've had both the Sub2K and the CX4 Storm. The Beretta was certainly the higher quality item, but believe it or not, the KT was actually more accurate with the open sights. I did scope the Beretta, but it was never anything but an ammunition eating 50 yard range toy. I traded the S2k in 2006, and have regretted it ever since. I could carry it folded in a rectangular zippered bag with ease. I traded the CX4 for 2 NIB Mossy Mav's (one 18.5" and one 28") and a bit of cash in 2010. I bought the CX4 used in 2008, and got a bit more value than my purchase price in the trade. As fine as the CX4 was/is, I don't regret that trade. Other than .22 cal, the only pistol caliber carbines I see a real practical use for are the long cased magnum revolver rounds.

Does the CX4 have any of those big magazines like the Glock 33 round?

it's interesting that you mentioned the accuracy of the cx4... i just got done watching a 20min youtube vid by the guy who does all the gun review outback in the woods and he missed his targets so many times... i have seen him hit the same targets with a pistol... guess the cx4 is out then...

I have a Ruger PC4 (.40). It also comes as a PC9. It is well built, fun to shoot and is like using a 10-22. You can find them used, for less than this one (but it was what was available on Gunbroker right now).

I have a great time with it. They're no longer in production, but can be found pretty easily.

The CX4 has a 20rd mag available. It only comes in two flavors on the mags, one compat w/ the Beretta 92 pistol mags and the other compat w/ the PX4 pistol mags. I'm not sure which one the 20rd is, probably the 92. The PX4 mag version has an insert to make it work.

The CX4 is on my short list. Been wanting a pistol caliber carbine and it's about the lightest weight out there. I want something w/ ammo commonality w/ my 9mm pistol and all the 9mm ammo that's stock piled. I would love to build a 9mm AR, but that's a lot of cash to outlay for a pistol carbine. I prefer the look of the CX4, less 'black rifle'. If I'm gonna fork out for a black rifle, it's gonna be a sig 516.

I'm not much of a rifle shooter. In fact until I bought a carbine four or five years ago, the last rifle I had shot was qualifying with an M-1 on a Marine range in 1960. The one I bought was a HI Point 9mm carbine for about $200. It had performed very reliably until it was stolen in February of last year along with ten pistols. After I had replaced the hand guns, I decided that since I had enjoyed the carbine, I would replace that too. By last August, Hi Point had released the long awaited 45 carbine, and since I'm fond of that round and have a ton of 45 ammo, I decided on that one. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot it that much, but through about 350 rounds, it also hasn't missed a beat.

To be honest, I would probably never recommend a Hi Point pistol, big, clunky, and ugly, but their carbines have earned a great deal of respect from nearly everyone who has tried one.

+1 for the hipoint..only drawback is 15 rd max mag(in 9mm anyway)

I dunno if I would say it is flimsy but it is very light and very convenient.

It is also surprisingly very accurate. 100 yards open sights no problem.

Takes Glock mags which is even more convenient.

the 9mm carbine is i guess a little less tactical than say a submachine like the mp5... i would love own an mp5 but a clone is close $1.5k, i would def pay for the real hk mp5 at that price but i think they are really going for 3k if you even find one...

You'll probably need to find a used one as Ruger quit making them around 2007.
If you want something similar, a used Marlin Camp 9 will be easier to find.

Greg

BTW, that's a good link that Alfonse provided to one on GB.

Hey, be like me and get a 10/22 instead of the 9 mm carbine. :)

That things' just gonna eat up ammo (just like my 10/22). Not only that you can get 50 round mags for the 10/22. Let's see if I use 40 grain solids, I need to shoot 3 times to get to 120 grains of lead delivered at a higher fps than the 9 mm.

I have both the 10-22 and PC4 plus a P94 pistol too.

The last time I looked at PC9s and PC4s, there were police trade ins for $375 or so. The ones with the ghost ring sights go for a bit more than the standard sights. I have a Bushnell red-dot on mine.

It is a type of fun that the 10-22 can't match. It is like the difference between a BB gun and a good pellet gun.

the pc9 looks fun, i am an owner of the 1022 as well...

for a 9mm carbine i was really wanting something more of a tactical look... not too sure if there are very much accessories esp. pistol grip for a pc9... plus the current price on the pc9 is too much for me... i might as well get an mp5 clone for double the money and be happy completely with my purchase...

i may have to get a hipoint in the end...

There is at least one 9mm carbine that visually resembles an AR, but I can't think of the name off the top of my head. Saw it at the LGS, looked like a quality piece.

I think the Hi-Point is a great choice. Fun, with a great warranty. No, there aren't many accessories for a PC9. The design isn't conducive to changing out the stock at all although I know of one with a collapsible stock modification.

They are easy to put a rail on, uses the same rail as a Ruger Mini 14 Ranch.

I've been looking pretty hard at the 9mm AR variants out there in tandem w/ the various 9mm carbines mentioned here. For my needs, I find it MORE compelling to own that than an AR in .223/5.56 or other rifle caliber. I just have little interest in rifles in general and would like something w/ ammo commonality and I don't need/want capability past 100yds. It's going to be more a fun thing than purposeful. So a 9mm AR would be ideal for me.

But regarding what's out there. Quite a bit. There are a couple that are pre-built ready to go. Colt, Olympic Arms come to mind. I personally would like to build one starting w/ a DDLES lower because it's custom designed for the 9mm mags, rather than a retro-fitted aftermarket look that even the Colt and OA have.

But then there is the $ factor. At that point, the CX4, PC9, etc become a much more appealing prospect.

My brother picked up a Sterling 9mm carbine and seems to like it a bunch. I haven't fired it, but it sounds like it may be worth a look.

I think you can get them for around $400.
