I just bought a Mk40 used. In viewing if from the front looking at the barrel, there is a moon shaped gap above the barrel in barrel/slide that stretches from the 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock position.

To give a reference, I folded a sheet of paper 4 times, and it slides in this barrel/slide gap area. It is as if the barrel hole in the slide is not machined straight, but elongated at the top.

Is this normal? Is this a "relieve angle on top to allow the barrel to pivot? Any help would be appreciated.

Yup, you got it. It needs to be there to allow the slide to retract and the barrel to pivot.

Could you guys define normal? Maybe kind of broadly. I so want to fit in.

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it. :D

Awww man! Thanks so much. That's me to a T. The car ain't worth what you owe and you owe 3 times what the house is worth and you really don't want the job.
If you leave undergarments out of the equation I'm near perfectly normal.

UNDER-garments... a foreign term... what are UNDER-garments?
