hi there old lurker, new member.
i have a cw45 has had several hundred rds thru it. couple of days ago after a bit of shooting, problem free, i put a loaded mag in with slide locked back, allowed slide to load the first round. thought nothing about it. hasnt been fired since. today decided to load it with hollow points, i dropped the mag out, tried to rack the slide. it wouldnt open, moved about 1/8 inch, thats it. had to put top corner of slide to rest the pistol on, an push really hard, to get hardball out. once it was totally cleared, it worked fine. put clip in with h/p, wiyh slide locked back, loaded chamber by releasing slide with lever, as always. again was unable to rack slide. used corner of desk as before to unload. once empty, pistol works fine.

any ideas short of sending it back to kahr?

You might try some different ammo. Something with a smaller bullet tip or shorter Over All Length. Why? . . . because it sounds like the tip of your bullet is getting lodged in the throat / rifling of the barrel.

I had a similar experience with an LCP that was acquired shortly after they came out. Ruger replaced the barrel because I was having issues with a very common ammo (American Eagle).

With conventional rifling, you usually see marks on the bullet when this happens. With the smooth Kahr polygonal rifling, not so much.

If the ammo that sticks is a common, commercial variety, Kahr will probably correct the problem. Be sure to ask for a prepaid shipping label, presuming they agree it is a gun issue.

Best of luck and let us know how you fare.

That's excellent advice advice. My CW45 did exactly as the OP's when it was new (IE, certain brands/styles of hollow points were difficult to eject when unfired). At some point, that cleared up, because it will hand eject anything I put in it now. FWIW, the previously hard to eject, unfired hollow points never presented a problem when actually firing them.

thanx guys, but why would it refuse to cycle hardball. thats when it started. i had fired same ammo, reloaded, with same hardball, let pistol set for a few days, then it wouldnt let me rack slide to put hollowpoints.

thanx

check to see if by chance the bullet is getting into the rifling of the barrel. This will cause lock up to, . I would also polish the chamber some to,u ca'thurt it by doing that. . Just putting some 600+ grip paper around a dowel will do the job, but if u have a dremel and a polishing cone, it is easier. Ur scenario is strange

so it should be safe to keep firing, even tho i cant get the slide open normally, until it loosens it self up

My kids used to say when something wasn't working right and cleaning it up something fixed it "it probably had a booger in it." Just sayin.

getting in on this one a bit late, but I have a question about the particular round that was "stuck"...... I wasn't a reload was it? The only stuck round I ever had that was similar to that (and I had to put the corner of the slide on the edge of the shooting bench and use some force to move the slide) was a bulged case reload (my own:rolleyes:) in my CW9. It was a real PITA at the time.

I'm just gonna say....

My own PM45 barrel had very streaky black stuff in its chamber... I dunno what it was, and thought it was lead ammo blow-by. Kahr insists they use jacketed projectiles for testing. Therefore... it was from manufacturing. It took me about a half hour of scrubbing and rinsing to get a truly clean chamber. I didn't have sticking problems, but... neither was I in cold climes

the initial rd was hard ball, when i got it out i replaced it with hollowpoint, it stuck also. i took it apart, cleaned it, polished chamber, lubed it, took it to shoot. it initially was clean and lubed also. any way had 4 loaded clips, and a 15yo son to reload, 250 rds commercial h/b and h/p ammo. same as were initially sticking. it was shot as fast and semi accurately as poss. til i ran out of ammo. lol it will get hot. no failures, ACT mags were great. after getting it home, it doesnt stick now, i cleaned it again, lubed it, reloaded, and waiting for next time. lol it was all commercpal ammo used, federal h/b and fiocchi h/p.
