When Mr. Moon started the company he wanted to name the pistol something that sounded German so he chose Kahr...It isn't anyones name it's just a made up brand name.....I like it myself but I keep finding myself spelling it Khar for some reason...

I believe the owner Mr Moon wanted a German sounding name.

Thanks for the reply. I can understand Mr. Moon's desire to associate his company with German gun quality. But in retrospect, American gun manufacturing quality is also pretty darn good.

Anyway, thanks again. My curiosity has been satisfied.

I had Gaston Glock once, a couple of Tums and a glass of cheap scotch and it went away in no time. Least I think it did, can't remember real clear, maybe it was more than one glass.

I don't think that Moon Guns or "Moonies" would have made the guns popular.

But Glock is Austrian. And Obama told us that's a different language than German.

Just like Haagen-Dazs. Sounds like an exotic Danish name but it's totally made up bby the original owners from Brooklyn and means nothing.

You have to be careful making up names for a new product...When GM exported the Chevy Nova to Latin America it didn't sell well because No Va means "It doesn't Go" in Spanish...The story goes that GM changed the cars name to Caribe and sales picked up smartly....:p

His idea of greasing himself up and getting launched over a prison fence sounds kind of appealing today. The END results would be about the same regardless.

Somebody gets the Oscar Meyer no matter how you grease it..

A while back the Japanese built a new car and went to the German's for a name synonymous with fine German engineering. When the Germans asked the Japanese when the car would be ready hit the market the Japanese told them that the car would go into production the following week. The Germans replied, "Dat zoon?" and the rest is history. :)

And the rest is history.

I was thinking about Deitrich the other day. I sure miss him. And Jocko is right, he would have something really fitting to say about the whole thing.

yes indeed and he could post what I would want to say but could not because is was not printable to the public, but Deit could do it in such class act way that if he told u to go fokk urself, u would think it was something that would be worth a try even. Where as if I said that, u would be insulted. That my friends is Deit, who was and is a class act and ol jocko who was and is ,,,,still an ass.

Just sayin.

The name is derived from old low German... "Kahrfitzinderpokit", just shortened to Kahr.

There is a rumor going around that the derivation is from "Kahrfignewton"... but that is just not true.

Thanks CJB, I'd given up hope that we'd be able to give this man a real solid answer to his good question.

You saved the day for us in a big way today. I never held much credence in that fignewton story either, glad it's not true.

well I can only say that on the inside ofmy PMJ9 slide back by the striker where my slide has two dimples is inscribed Fignewton. So do I have a rare kahr and was it maybe changed to Kahrfitzinderpokit later on as CJB suggests or could this possable be the missing Rommel pocket gun that he often carried. Just sayin.

No it is not for sale and u will just have to trust me on what I am sayin is printed on my slide, as I cannot take photos.

The other rumor... is that Kahr is the shortened version of "Kahrpuut"... rumor only, not true.

Some forum members may disagreee, but I'll attest otherwise.

Similarly, the shortening of "Kahrabunga!" is a viscous rumor.

For some reason (?)... The word "Kahr" kinda inspires more confidence in me than the Korean word "Daewoo"...

BTW, do any of you know much about Daewoo guns?... I noticed there's a used Daewoo .40 listed at one of my local gunstores.

Oh... Here's a YouTube of a Daewoo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmsx_HQBcJQ

And here's one that tells all about the Daewoo "triple-action trigger"... and has shooting footage at the end...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRKD_4IvE9I&feature=related

(I'm kinda getting off on a Korean tangent here...)

Hahaha...appears you're mourning/dulling the election results with adult beverages.

Here in Colorado we no longer have to do that. We now gots legal marijuana to turn to for help.

At my age, given the choice between liver and brain damage I'll go with brain damage anytime....nothing to lose.

According to the Reinheitsgebot;
The original company name was Löwenkahr or "lion's kahr" in German.
The name was later shorted to what we know today as Kahr.

Yeah we got legalized dope now too. I stopped on the way home to get some but hey said they didn't have any yet. A punk on the way out told me he could help me out but I declined. I''d hate to screw the state out of their 25% tax and all.
Rumor has it the feds will fight it since it's still illegal according to their rule book.

Why do you think they call it dope?

Why do you think they call it dope?

I think they call it DOPE because it has kinda the same effect on me as that yellowish chemical liquid stuff I used to brush on my model airplanes when I was a kid... to harden the paper on the balsa wood frame.

It made me high for sure and it was actually called DOPE... Between that 'n' the glue, there was nothin' quite like doing a couple wings-worth before bedtime back in those days... ahh... when things were simpler... (?)... Or were they?... I certainly don't recommend the practice.

I'm sure I lost a bunch of valuable brain cells. Didn't know any better at the time.

Didn't have any older wiser beings on internet blogs to warn me...

Well if Romney'd been elected, I'm sure the feds would have fought it. But given Obama told the agency to lay off when we went through the med pot u&c bit a couple years back I suspect that after a bit chest beating fed enforcement will lay low around here.

That gun was built during high school football season. Newton is a neighboring city in Mass.

One of the Japanese car makers tried to introduce a new model named "Incubus" without doing any research. I think a lot of guys would have liked a car with that name. I can only imagine what the emblem would have become as the guys modified them. wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incubus

Someone raised a protest and the car maker quickly dropped that name.

Yeah, Obama was quite a toker in the past. I bet he'd like to do it legally in the White House after having to deal with EVERYONE who is not as smart as he thinks he is.
