View Full Version : Finally back on line from Sandy

Need to vent a little.
Finally after ten days I have Electric,Internet,Phone and Cable back. What a PITA this week has been. One of my neighbors one half yard/property over and one yard back has these 125' oak trees in there back yard and doesn't care about the conditions of there trees, was nice enough to drop a one of those trees and about four other smaller trees onto the power lines and my shed roof which is 80' away from the base of the tree. This was no small tree and at the base was about 5 feet in dia. This caused us to loose Electric till Friday Night. Thank God for that generator I bought a couple years back, as I was able to back feed the power to the house. I was glad to have that generator that on most days just sits silent. Many people had nothing and lived in the dark without heat as the temps went down into the low 40"s for 5 days. I was left to clean up all the tree that fell into my yard which consisted of more than a couple tons of wood and a what seemed like couple hundred branches of various sizes, as the owner would not do the right thing and pay to have it cleaned up. They sat with all the power they needed as there's did not go out. Trust me I'll deal with them now. I'll make there life a living hell now because of there FU attitude. I now have pictures of the trees that are still leaning and plan on sending them off to my insurance company as well as there's plus the township. That should cost them thousands. That's just the start as my shed which faces her backyard has black shingles on it, however I'm sure I developed color blindness in the last week and will replace the damaged areas with the most colorful shingles I'm can find. It doesn't matter to me as I can't see them. However it's right out there kitchen window. I care about my property and what it looks like to the area, but in this case what they see everyday is going to be a **** house. All the mold that I used to clean off the back of the sheds vinyl siding will now be left to grow as a mold experiment. All this because they choose not to stand up do the right thing and spend what I'm sure would have cost a couple hundred bucks for them when the tree removal was already here and removing it from there property. My misery from Sandy is almost over but there's is just starting. Trust me they started something they should not have and more then likely cost me $1000 do to my deductable. I have pictures of everything and can document it all. We'll see how this all plays out in the end but it will never be over for them. Trust me I'll show them all the Popeye FU love they can stand.

I think a very special, super ridiculous, statue only they can prominently seen should be bought and positioned strategically for their viewing pleasure.
Just a thought...

How about the flaming sack of dog poop. Might be a good application.
Just tossing out ideas.

Thanks for the ideas and the well wishes.:D Now that I'm done my volunteer work at the national cemetery for this week, it's time to light the torch and let the games begin. ;)It all starts bright and early tomorrow morning as soon as the sun comes up. I think I can still find a few small limbs off of the tree that need to be made much smaller with a gas powered chain saw and of course must be taken off the property immediatly with the lawn tractor. Then of course early Saturday morning I must also clean the left over leaves and twigs off the grass, lawn mower and tractor with the gas powered leaf blower. I also think I'll have to start up the snow blower and see how that works because last night we had about an inch. Then I'm sure on monday I can start the generator at about 7am and clean the debris out of the shed that the tree managed to put in it when it came through the roof. So much to do and I'm such an early riser and love to get my work done early and I havent even started to fix the roof yet and probably will leave that lovely blue tarp on it till spring when the weather is a little nicer. Him and her opened a can of worms and I'm going to make it a mission to stick it to them every chance I get. There days of peace and quiet from a neighbor that never did a thing to them and kept his property in good shape is over. All nice and legal of course :D

Them gas powered tools all work much more effectively if the exhaust isn't restricted by a muffler. Since you have so much to do and so little time to do it you might want to consider that.
Wearing ear protection yourself of course, wouldn't want to damage your sensitive hearing.
Just doing my little bit to help.
Course it wouldn't hurt to let the tractor warm up while your cutting with the chainsaw either. Saves wear and tear on the engine internals.

Do you remember how the US Marines got Manuel Noriega out of the Vatican Embassy down in Panama?
Liberal doses of AC/DC & Metallica played on loudspeakers 24/7.

Hey Popeyes, if you aren't going to burn the wood I would make sure that every leaf from that tree ended up in their too along with everything else u mentioned.

A lot of my co workers have noses like that and follow the supervisor very closely from behind. I think I'm starting to see a pattern.

Hate to hear about your problems.
Mine were much different after Katrina. Trees down every, not a power line left up. No power for two weeks, though no snow afterwards.
A funny thing happened where I lived at the time, just outside of Gulfport, MS. Neighbors went out to help their neighbors. I had a generator and would fire it up every evening to power the fridge and freezer along with the water pump. Put up a sign in the neighborhood letting folks know when the could get all the water they needed. Many wanted to pay but I never took a cent.
I also had a chainsaw in good working order and the first thing I did was drive around the neighborhood and just cutting downed trees blocking drives. I didn't ask persmission to do so and no one came after me with a gun. Most folks never knew I did them a favor and I never let the know.
The next door neighbor had a tree on his property that fell across the fence in the back. He offered to pay to have the fence repaired but being as there were a few place where I had trees come down on the fence and I already had the materials on hand to repair them I told him not to worry about it. He wanted to help fix the fence but I again told him not to worry about it. About ten minutes work in that particular section and all was good.
Others around the neighborhood reached out to offer what they had when others didn't, so I for sure not the only one who did this. I didn't know most of my neighbors, other than the immediate next door ones, but got to know more of them after the storm.
Not sure if it a Southern thing or not. I've lived in a few areas across the country but have to say I've never felt more welcomed than here in the south.

So Popeye, tell us how you really feel.

MW, I know there are many great folks across this country. I've met many of them over the years.
But the south, complete strangers are nice. Complete strangers say "Hi" out of the blue. Complete strangers will strike up a conversation like you've been friends since grade school.
Not to offend anyone on here, but I've found the east and west coasts to be the less friendly, aside from WA in the sticks. Well, guess I should say anywhere in the sticks.

I have found this to be true for about 98% of the people I've met in my travels (with the exception of some countries which will remain unsaid). Heck, I've even met some (not a whole bunch) in NYC and NJ to be friendly, but not as you say here in the south.
