They made so many I can't keep them straight. 85, 89, 90, 94, 95... I've always heard great things about them.
I have a P345 and love it, but the mechanism is a little different from the others in the series, so I just learned.
Our LGS has three used P- somethings, two in alloy frame, one with the black polymer frame. The alloy models had a sloppy trigger takeup, didn't care for it. The other, I guess a P90-something, had a brownish slide , a nice trigger, good balance, and I liked the "decocker only" feature. $250. Cripes, that'll buy a thousand rounds of ammo. WTF am I thinking?

My first pistol was a P89 9mm. It was a great pistol. Never hiccuped one time out of thousands of rounds. The triggers are not the best, but I could always hit with mine no problem. They are overbuilt for their calibers and have loose tolerances... like Glocks. They were meant to compete for the military contracts in 1985, but lost out to Beretta. Metal framed P-series Rugers will be the last things remaining on earth after nuclear war besides cockroaches and Keith Richards.
Get one cause they're cheap.

I also have a P89 and I saw some threads over on the Ruger Forum about replacing the P89 trigger with a P95 trigger. I made the trigger change, which was pretty easy to do, and like the results.
While my Kahr CM9 is my carry gun, the Ruger P89 is my bedroom house gun. It is rugged and utterly reliable. It's fun to shoot and I take it out and shoot it a lot.

I just remembered that I have a Kel Tec PF9 gathering dust. I was going to use it for a bug-out bag if I ever got around to making one. With the Northwood trigger, it might fetch a few bucks in trade to the Ruger, which would be much better in a BOB.
My K9 is PF9 sized, so I have no need for two compact 9s.
But then why do I need two full size 9s? My Bersa 9HC plus a Ruger? Who says I have to apply logic?

I have a P94 in .40 and love it. Certainly not a pocket gun though, but sort of the AK of pistols.
You don't have to get a 9 mm. P series came in 9mm, .40, and .45. They also came in DAO, SA/DA and with decocker or decocker and safety. Stainless or blue. There are lots of choices.

I'm set for .45s unless someone gives me a 1911 or Kahr comes out with a K45. I figure 9mm so I can have 15 rounds on board, or 17 with aftermarket mags. Not interested in .40.

Ruger aficionados call that "plum" (that is if it's not rusted):)
I have a P90DC. It was a blued manual safety model, but I found a complete, stainless, decocker top end (and most of the receiver parts) on an auction site. I bead blasted the stainless slide and added Meprolight sights. I swapped out the blue slide stop for a stainless one and installed a P95 trigger. The factory grips were replaced with some Uncle Mike's. I also replaced all my metal mag followers with plastic ones. The gun is reliable and accurate. I like it enough that I've not thought of replacing it with anything in the genre (SA/DA semi automatics in .45ACP).

So when are you going to the GS? What, you haven't left the house yet?
A Ruger has to be better than a KelTec PF9, doesn't it?

I was never fond of the Rugers for some reason, like the HK's that I really should love (do like the P7's) the controls were just to clunky for me. They do run superbly and are very reliable. I've heard many agencies in the south and east use them for duty guns.
I do love the look of the now Ruger that GB posted. Looks really nice.
