Cargo Pocket Carry

How many here carry in a cargo pocket?

What sort of holster do you use? Is it sloppy? Does it print?

My reason for asking is my son is considering carrying in the cargo pocket of work type pants. Call them tactical type work pants. He carries a Glock 26 (yeah I know, but his mother loves him anyway)

Would a Kydex holster made to the dimensions of the pocket with 2 hooks instead of one make any sense? Big issue with concealment and slopping around. It's gotta be stable.

I carry a CM9 all summer in pocket. Front pocket. I've been using a #3 Uncle Mikes. Works fine covers the trigger and doesn't move around. I would never carry in the cargo pocket as the gun is going to be banging against your leg all day long. Been there tried that. Plus in a front pocket you can draw without looking like your going for a gun. In the cargo pocket your going to have pull that velcro or undo the button and dig around. Get that boy a Kahr.

Just get pants with big front pockets.
Some tactical pants work or some styles of Dockers have big front pockets.
I personally like Woolrich Tactical Elite, Operator and Covert pants.
Carry a Glock G27, in a DeSantis Super Fly holster, like that all the time.
The trick is using a reinforced gun belt to hold your pants up.
I destroyed several standard belts till I figured that out.

Tinman - I wear cargo shorts about 95% of the time during the summer. Tried carrying in the cargo pocket but it is too low to reach unless you kind sorta scrunch down on the carry side. That plus you gotta flip up the flap. Just carry in the front pocket with a normal pocket holster.

Ok, way more information than you wanted. Either DeSantis or Galco makes a pocket holster that is designed to be carried in the cargo pocket. The more I think about it is that it is DeSantis that makes them. Just a bit wider with 2 hooks than their normal pocket holster.

Cargo pockets do not allow quick access and show to much movement. Tacticool clothing in generial make you stand out in a crowd. Play'n army , then wear your tacticool stuff. Find a way to carry that controls your pistol and leaves easy access and does not say , Hey I Carry.

No, he legitimately wears tactical pants but isn't LEO, more EMS.
I am talking to him about rethinking the cargo pocket in lieu of front pocket. Only issue is he will be sitting a lot. He mostly carries IWB but that isn't a viable option right now.

I carry my PM9 quite often in my denum cargo shorts in the summer. I use a De Santis gunhide pocket holster. As far as cargo pocket /front pocket carry it's a little give and take IMO. If you carry it in the cargo pocket you have to move the top flap to get to the gun. If you put it in the front pocket you have to be standing to get to the gun. For me personally I prefer the cargo pocket. I'm left handed and some of my cargo shorts have a inner pocket in the cargo pocket so it doesn't flop around or print. Some of my cargo shorts have a zipper on the front edge of the left cargo pocket. If I'm going somewhere out of the neighborhood I IWB hip carry the pm9. This way I know exactly where it is and what angle it's positioned on my person. There really is no perfect place to carry, only the place that works best for you personally. If I wore tactical pants to do my job. I'd come up with some salution,even if it meant having a custom made pocket in the pocket to fit my needs. Just a thought

Although I prefer cross draw belt carry when driving or sitting.
Cargo pockets due allow easier access to a weapon for me, compared to a front pocket, when seated.
DeSantis and others have holsters specifically designed for cargo pockets.

As others have stated it would seem to me to be very difficult to draw from a cargo pocket. Many attacks occur as a surprise in under 1.5 seconds. I now operate in a mode of front pocket carry with my hand in my pocket on my firearm in ANY situation I feel is a amber condition. My cargo pockets, if available, hold my small flashlight, a fox 40 whistle, and cell phone.

I briefly attempted cargo pocket carry. Too low. Flap in the way. Gun bounces around when I walk. Feels like too much weight on one side of pants. Not comfortable for me. But I do front pocket carry in certain situations.

I carry my P380 in the right front pocket of cargo shorts sans holster. It's my designated pocket and nothing but the gun goes in it. In a pair of cargo shorts or pants I have plenty of other pockets in which to carry non-essentials. I keep my finger out of the trigger guard when drawing the gun and have safely carried in this manner for more than ten years. The boys don't seem to mind a bit.

Tinman something could be made of kydex to fit the pocket or one might alter a Kohlster or Crossbreed or for that matter have a custom holster made.

My son picked up a West German duty holster (I think it is west German) built for a SIG P6 I believe. Actually he has picked up two of them and he really likes to "open carry" in them. It is a drop holster on a swivel, well at least that is one way it can work. It can be turned around on the swivel so it is a HIGH OWB style holster or the actual holster can come off the swivel and it has a belt loop and doesn't ride as high nor as wide. It has a like a double snao retention system, one does not get the handgunh out in a hurry BUT someone else aint going to take it off you in a hurry either... Wish I had gotten two more of them and a couple those P6's as well. I kight be able to find some of the holsters yet and surely some other SIG will fit nearly as well as the P6.. I mean his Mosquito fits pretty dern well.

I have a pair of cargo pants that the front pokcets are not deep enough to carry the PM9 without the grip showing, so I have t carry it in the cargo pocket. I hate it. It bounces around and disorients itself. I have actually had it to start working itself out of the holster. I do it when I have to, but it is not a good thing IMO. My holster is a Bear Creek horse hide pocket holster.

tinman507 Why doesn't your buddy learn the finer aspects iwb . Those little glock bricks are kinda big and heavy for pocket carry anyhow. I had a g27 . Sold it and went with thinner and lighter for pocket cc.

He's not really supposed to carry on the job but he's going to be in some dicey areas and alone a lot. It involves a lot of sitting both in driver's seat and bench seat in the back of an ambulance. Not active duty EMS. Something different.

I was brainstorming how he could protect himself and still have reasonable accessibility to the lil friend. Cargo pocket seemed like a good idea but I agree, I have carried in them and it was horrible.

Tried to talk him into looking at a P380 but he's a Glock Fanboy through and through.

This may not work out.

Ankle carry would be an option. A construction worker at the recent refurb project here said he carried there every day. I think he bought jeans 2" longer than his size in order to keep it covered when sitting or bending over. Even after he told me, I never could tell he was carrying.
