I recently bought a used PM9. From the serial # it was made in 2003 but it's in great condition. I love the size. Accuracy compared to the Kel Tec I traded is great!

First issue: I have been to the range twice and at least once for each mag, the slide will be about 1/8" from returning all the way forward. Just a touch with my finger and it returns. I discovered that the recoil spring was in wong(the closed end was toward the front). I have not been to the range since I corrected this. Would this have caused this?

Second issue is the "nosedive": I checked the springs in the magazines, they are in correctly. I also checked to make sure the magazine release wasn't hitting the follower. Also checked to make sure rounds weren't hitting the slide stop.

Since I don't know how many rounds have been through the gun, Should I get new springs for the magazines and a new recoil spring to see if this resolves my nosedive issue?

Thanks for being patient with a newby!

Since you don't know how many rounds, it's probably at least a good idea to get a new recoil spring and since you're buying might as well get some magazine springs too for backup. Since it's from 2003 it's the old blunt style PM9 and you are in luck. gunsprings.com has them and for cheaper than the Kahr Shop.

That said, I would probably give it a whirl first to see how a box of ammo goes now that the recoil spring is in correctly. Incorrect placement definitely could have caused the failure to go to battery. As for the nosedives, I'll let someone else speak. Let us know how it goes.

Before you buy anything you may try some rounds that are 124 gr. or higher. Your gun may have not been fired past the needed break in period. Heavier loads may help. I would also unload the gun, and work the slide a couple of hundred times by hand. This will also help.
The nosedive issue is covered in the tech section of this forum. It is usually an easy fix and is totally eliminated as a issue on my firearm.

Keep us informed. Lots of people here to help.

get a new set of recoil springs and my betu will be OK. With that serial # it should be the blunt nose PM9 version which if so, u can just go to wolffs gunsprings and order the outter recoil sprin g and be alot cheaper to do. count the coils if u can figure out what I mean by the blunt noxe version 13 coils is old style, wolffs makes um for sale 15 coils is new style u hv eto buy it compl;ete from kahr. U have the old style I would bet on that.

Now also take that recoil assembly and look at that back flat wahser flat peace that goes against the barrel lug, measue it. if it isd 3/8" diameter, then I would suggest u but a new complete recoil assembly from kahr (13 coil set), as they made a change sometime after that and now that flat peace is 1/2" in diamter. they changed for a reason and I know not why. My PM9 had the 3/8" recoil in it and was fine but when they changed, I just bought theentire assembly and then after that I just bought the outter recoil springs from wolffs, muych much cheaper and that is all u really need to change over to.

Just sonds to me like there is just not enough recoil sri ng to returnt he slide to battery. If u look on thewolffs site, they even offer that recoil spring in two weights. factory and a couple pounds heavier, buy um both anbd try um both, s\ee wichg one does the job right for you.

wolffs makes 5% nore magazine strengt springs to. buy a 3 pak, they are grerat, ur certainly on the right track to get it right IMO..
