So, is there ANYBODY out there that these sights stay attached the gun for ? Just curious since I'm trying to decide between Trijicon and Dawson...

Although not a PM/CM series gun.
I have Kahr factory Trijicon NS on my MK40 Elite
with over 1000 rounds down range.

The sights are perfect.

I have had the Trijicon sights on both my "CW" series pistols (9mm and .45ACP) for some time now and I have not had a single issue with them.

Were they factory installed on the CW type guns or did you do them yourself gb ?

I did them myself. I'm of the opinion that the front sight screw must be flush with or below the slide surface to prevent damage/failure of the sight.

This was not an issue on my CW45:

On the other hand, my CW9 did not have enough clearance and I had to modify it (http://kahrtalk.com//showpost.php?p=54961&postcount=27) some (Please Note: Some members have posted photos of newer CW9 and CM9 pistols that show Kahr has increased the depth of the countersink on these pistols.):

Another place that I think might result in damage to the sight is during installation. If the bottom of the sight does not sit flush with the top of the slide, simply trying to tighten the screw down more is likely to damage the post before (if ever) the sight sits flush. Here's what I believe needs to be done:

Nice explanation Greg. The pictures and diagrams make it crystal clear. Thanks.

Do you use a press for the rear sight, or do you use a punch like the old days?

Yeah many thanks, now I understand why there have been issues on the CM platform. Might be a good idea to use the threadlocker on both pins, not just on the screw. I expect Kahr probably modifies the earlier slides when they install sights there so everything interfaces correctly whereas the average guy probably just screws it together thinking all is ok. Thanks greatly for showing me the pitfalls Greg !!

I installed them on my CW45. My experience was similar to Greg's. The back sight took lots of grinding, but now that it's done, glad I did it.

I wish the XS sights were the same price as the Trijicon since I like the big fast dot front but not for $40 over the Trijicon. I'm probably going to just do my front and call it good.

ur oly gonna do this one time, buy what u want, put the price behind u and a month after they are on u will have forgot about that $40. Just sayin

I think the xs big dots are worth every dollar IMO.

Don't know if it helps you, but my Dawson front tritium is tight as heck on my CM9 after a few hundred rounds including some 124gr+P Gold Dots. It's staked on and comes with the staking tool.

Checked my slide and it has a well machined bevel where the screw will set so hopefully no further mods (to the gun) will be needed. I hear ya about the $$ Jocko I just get cheap this time of year :-). The Dawson sight seems to be a more secure setup, thanks APS. I think a case trimmer can clean up any radius on the sight posts before installing which might be better than modifying the slide, rather bugger a sight than a slide LOL.

I've removed them using both methods, but I use a pusher/press exclusively for installing night sights.

Any recommendations for a reasonably priced tool ( less than the price of sights) that will work for limited use?

I looked online and the pushers can get pricey.

Thanks for the link. I just ordered one. Doing my first set without this tool was challenging.

I have a P500 clone that has worked well enough for me, but it takes some care to set up.

I also have the pusher that MEJETSKI2000 linked to, but have not used it. It seems pretty well made, but I want to figure out a way to add a non marring face to the part that pushes the sight.

I also have an older version of this (but, again, I have not yet put it to use): http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=379574
Here's a link to how this pusher was developed (his concept version of it doesn't require much work to make; you'd need the metal, a bolt, saw, drill, drill bit, tap, and vise): http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/214136-forum-benefit-auction-sight-pusher-tool.html

Greg

BTW, for a size comparison, here's a photo with the three tools in it:

I have the Trijicon on the front of my CM9. It has stayed on fine using red locktite. I had a small space between the botom of the sight and the slide. I put red lock tite under there as well and done.

The only thing I didn't like about the Triji sight was the white ring around the tritium looked flakey like whiteout.

I think the Dawson is the way I'm heading, rather have it staked on both legs rather than just 1 screw holding it in place.

Jocko,
When you say, "Dawson makes awesome stuff!" what are you referencing? I Googled "Dawson" and can only find "Dawson Precision." I went to their website and it seems to me that they are just an online retailer. Do you mean the Dawson "Impact Night Sights?" I can not find a set for Kahr. They do offer Novak "cut" sights. Is this what you mean?

All,
I'm still deciding on which night sights to have installed on my PM9. I'd like to see what the sights look like installed on a PM9. Does anyone have a picture of the "Impact Sights" on a PM Series?

Thanks!

Dawson Precision (http://www.dawsonprecision.com) is the website you want.
Here's their "A Day at Dawson Precision" video:

Let us know how the tool works.

Tool came today. Used it to change out the rear sight on my CM9 to tritium night sights. Worked like a charm. No hiccups at all. Took about an hour for all the filing, but the old one came out like butter, and the new one is in snug as can be. I did loc-tite it just in case. This tool really works as advertised.

That is a cool tool. I've been wanting to make something just like that for a little while now. I like how simple it is.

I've got one of the sightpusher devices, he's expanded now to some more gunb/brand specific models, which is cool. But I love it, great product. There are nicer/smoother devices out there for a couple hundred bucks, but I'm not a gunsmith and this works perfectly for the few times I have needed to drift a set of sights.

Deano thanks for getting back about the tool. I have 2 guns to swap sights on and I'll scoff one up.
