So after taking some time off from active shooting and CCW I stepped back in with a CM9 purchase. I picked up the gun on Friday evening.

I am really grateful for the wealth of info on this site. I went through the prep of the pistol as noted in the sticky threads. I even checked out the follower in the mag - mine stuck... so I did a little sanding as recommended and the follower ran smoothly without catching. THAT was a great tip for this gun.

Went to the range today and ran about 120 rounds through without a single issue. Flawless! A little different than my old Sig 228, however a great gun. One more trip trip the range before I allow the CM9 to be used for carry.

Any suggestions for carry ammo? I am thinking of Speer Gold Dot 124. (In going through my old shooting equipment, I found an almost full box of original Black Talons...)

Thanks again for the great posts and suggestions

I love my CM9 also...total confidence with it. I am carrying with the Speer Gold Dots right now...any expandable will do the job in my opinion. I have some of the Hornady Zombie rounds that I acquired in a trade...have them in some mags also.
As for carrying, I prefer IWB with my Sof-tuk...great little holster. Have pocket carried it some with the Nemesis, but little awkward for a pocket gun IMO.

nice report. u took noting for granite and at least checked things out. U can't go wrong with gold dots, everyone has their own pet round but most will agree the gold dot is just one heh of a great defense round.

My CM9 loves those GD 124s. I can hear and feel the exta positive way those bullets cycle through my gun.

Jocko, you are the Yogi Berra of Kahr talk... In a round about way.

You kill me.

Gold Dot 124 gr is what I carry in mine. Mine has been perfect for 375 rounds of six different brands and weights of ammo.
I just received an email from Brad at Bear River Holsters that my order has shipped! I'll start carrying mine pretty soon....

As Jocko said, the apparent favorite carry round for the Kahr 9mms is the Speer GDHP, usually in 124 grain. I've heard that some 147 grain rounds are a bit too long to cycle reliably, but YMMV.

I carry GDHP +P 124 grain, the "Short Barrel" version. Supposedly, the powder burns a little quicker so that you get every last bit of "oomph" out of the short barrel on a micro 9mm barrel.

Anyway, just my $0.02, which is worth about nuthin' when you adjust for inflation. You get what you pay for. ;)

Congrats on your new CM9. Good job checking your mag follower before hitting the range. Most likely saved yourself some time doing that beforehand. I did the same with my new CM9. It took very little sanding on the follower to start running past the mag release smoothly.

I use Hornady Critical Defense in my CM9, but I am also a big fan of Speer GDHP. Both are great 9mm defense loads.

Welcome to the wonderfuly addictive world of Kahrtalk.com!
Congrats on the new cm9, and the flawless report. My new .02 on carry ammo that I learned from some instructors in the area: Carry what your local LEO's carry, or go with the gold dots (whatever grain) that are carried by the FBI. This is one of those things that is supposed to help you in court should you ever be forced to use your gun. Because law enforcement uses the round, the jury is more likely to find it ok. Again, just my .02 for what its worth.

Congrats on your CM9 purchase & range trip. You're going to love this pistol like all the rest of us. Replaced my Ruger LCP with the CM9 & haven't looked back yet. I've put the Talon Rubberized grips on my CM9, calms down the serrated front/back straps for more comfortable range trips. Carry the 124 grain +P Gold Dots, mine loves 'em. Good luck & enjoy. :D

Thanks for all the great comments. I appreciate the feedback on the carry ammo. I agree with Yogi... the Talon grips look like my next purchase.

Glad your CM9 is running flawlessly for you. As for ammo, I do not own a 9mm so I have no comment, but I run Speer GDHP in my .380, but run Federal HST 180gr JHP or Winchester Ranger T 180gr JHP in my CM40. These rounds have the largest expansion then any other round.

+1 for the Talon rubber grips! Love em on my cm9, and p380. Actually had em in hand before the p380 made it to the LGS for pick up haha.

I too, replaced my Ruger LCP with my Kahr CM9. I have never looked back. You just can't beat the CM9 for the firepower for it's size. I love this little pistol. You made a great choice. Welcome to the addiction, and welcome to Kahrtalk...

I rum the Federal HST 124 gr. But I wouldn't hesitate to run Speer Gold Dots. I just got a good deal on the HST.
