View Full Version : CW9 missfires, light strikes after first field strip?

HI Guys. I have a P9, PM9, P9 Covert all of which shoot great, about everything I feed them from hot defense loads to reloads.
My brother bought a new CW9 about a year ago and it shot great up until he did a field strip a couple of days ago "while watching the video". My bro is not mechanically inclined. I would have preferred he waited so I could look over his shoulder while he was doing this.
On the first mag of factory ball ammo.. and 2 of five misfire on light strikes. We tried reloads which have worked in every other 9 we have and... same thing: 2 of five misfire on light strikes.
I got it home and took it down and there was some dirt inside, but absolutely no lube whatsoever... dry as a bone.
Is there anything he could have done during the takedown to make it misfire nearly have the rounds? Any ideas?
Second issue: it is less than a year old and has badly pitted on the "stainless" slide. While his safe may not have one of the damp free lamps like mine and more humidity, what is a Kahr doing pitting on the SS after less than a year? I told him to talk to Kahr and get them to replace the slide, but they have given him the bum's rush. Can I post pictures here, or do they have to be third party hosted?
Thanks in advance, Gents. Paul

Welcome to the forums:)
In regards to the light strikes, I doubt the field strip caused any issues and that the culprit is that there was "absolutely no lube whatsoever... dry as a bone". My reasoning here is that without proper lubrication, the slide was not always able to return to full battery. I'd guess that once properly lubricated the gun will function fine.
We don't see many reports of the slides pitting. I'd be inclined to think that this is a user induced issue, but that's not to rule out another explanation. Photos would surely be appreciated. Speaking of which, new members can not post attachments on site until they have 30 posts, so off site hosting will be necessary until then.

Thanks Greg,
I did lube the rails before putting it back together. I have also read about too much oil in the striker channel preventing proper strike. This one looked a little gooey or gunky. Any suggestions? I am not inclined to attempt opening up a striker assembly.
Thanks again,
Paul

You can just spray out the striker channel just don't oil it.
It gets filthy.

What should I use to "spray it out"? MPro 7 Maybe?

Use any non-chlorinated brake cleaner. Take a look at the slide and you will see a hole in the area of the striker. Stick the extension nozzle in there and give it a good shot. This will usually displace any "junk" in the striker channel. Do not oil the channel as oil will attract more junk.
Also, see the threads for cleaning and oiling.

Great advice.
I don't know what I would do without the army of helpful 2nd Amendment folks willing to share your time and insights.
Thanks so much.

Wear safety glasses. That stuff sprays at high pressure at can splash back in your face. I speak from experience. ;)

That's why now I always do the following steps:
1. Insert nozzle in hole.
2. Turn head and close eyes.
3. Press discharge for two seconds.
4. Let up on discharge button.
5. Open eyes. :biggrin1:
6. Remove nozzle from hole.
