View Full Version : My first trip to the range with my Kahr MK9

I have wanted a Kahr for sometime, but was always a touch hesitant due some of the issues I have read about them. So, when an opportunity arose to buy a MK9 from a local guy at the range, whose brother happens to work at Kahr, this gave me some peace of mind to buy my first Kahr. So, on to the the range. I started shooting from 7 yards out at a 3 inch circle. The trigger pull is long and smooth, like shooting a nice DA revolver. I like the feel that I am squeezing off shots. I think DA shooting can improve my trigger pull, hence accuracy on my other firearms. Surprisingly, I felt very comfortable with my pinky not be on the pistol grip. I thought the MK9 was very accurate once I found the correct sight picture. Takes me a bit longer to get on target, but I'm used to my 1911 Heine sights so makes complete sense. I was able to sling shot my MK9 or use the slide release. I heard these guns don't sling shot, guess that isn't always the case. Put 200 rounds thru the gun, not one failure of any kind. Now I have the bug, question is what do I buy next?

Jocko has it right. If you buy the CM9, you can interchange all the following and use in either gun, magazines, holsters and of course the ammo. Mix and match, it works for me. The grip and sight picture, safetys and memory practices are all the same. Never worry if the safety is off or on, or if you picked up the right mags or right ammo. It doesn't matter.:D

That is the right practice .... at least that many!

I'll contact Heine. I like the 1 for the show and 1 to go. MK9 is a bit on the heavy side so for carry, probably better off with something lighter. Might try to pick up a used CW9, or was looking at the .380's. Haven't held them, they look awfully small.

My thoughts as well, although I haven't acted on them.
One of the things I really like about my MK9 is that it is a beautiful chunk of metal that looks great and feels substantial. But that chunk of metal also makes it less attractive for carrying IMO. Enough so that I rarely carry mine.
For some time I have been considering getting a PM9 for carrying, for the reasons several others have mentioned, i.e. having 2 similar guns. I haven't acted on that yet because I keep getting distracted by other uses for my firearms budget. And there are a couple of other small 9mms that are contending for my attention, such as the HK P2000 SK, especially since I got the HK bug earlier this year.
