View Full Version : Sigline lists of stuff....
I'm not pickin on anyone... just curious.
Some folks have a lot of firearm items listed on their sig lines here on the forum.
Was wondering just how wise that is.
Considering the bad guys, plus our government... I'd rather have them search threads to find out what I've said is my own.
I'm trying to not be paranoid, but... something there... I don't like to advertise much either, ya know?
I know.. .to each his own... but just wonderin...
Hows everyone else feel about that?

I'm kinda like you in that respect. I'm probably a bit on the paranoid side too. To each his own though.
I actually lost all of mine in that boating accident in the Gulf of Mexico. I bet they are nothing but rust now being in all that salt water and all.

Here's how I feel. I don't give a damn what the government knows about me. I have nothing to hide. If someone wants my guns let the come and take them.

I have always figured that at least 1/2 of everything on the internet is a patently unreliable aka not trustworthy.

I always display my beautiful RG14, my one and only true love, and only firearm I actually own, every chance I get. I'm so proud of it I don't even list it in a sig line.
Actually, I thought this thread was gonna be about Sig firearms... but I do not now, nor have I ever owned one of them.

The guns we have are all registered so the government knows what we have anyway.
But what has been weird, is that the last two shipments (adjustable stocks for our shot guns) of gun related items were open or almost open. Has anyone else had similar experiences?
The guns we have are all registered so the government knows what we have anyway.
As someone who regularly processed 4473s, wrote the software to enter, sort, and archive them... I'm gonna say - totally not so.
My software was custom written for two ranges. It took the place of the "bound book", and had ATF approval. This was early 90's.... very early on with software for gun sales. We sold literally thousands of guns...
In my eleven or twelve years actively in the business, we had ATF come and ASK us for a search only two times. Thats it.
The way the search works - they ask you to find who the transferee of the make, model, caliber and serial number was. You give them that information. After seven years, AFT can ASK for the records, or we're supposed to offer, I forget which. Doesn't matter, because they never came for them, we never sent them, and by law they can then be destroyed.
So you're off the mark by a good bit....
Not alone - most people think that the 4473 is a "registration", but in fact its just to keep the dealer's nose clean, and make sure he's transferring to qualified purchasers, with some minor amount of backtracking by ATF on occasion when they seem fit. So, the 4473 is really so dealers can say "hey look, I followed the rules and recorded each transaction, and made sure it was legit within the scope of the answers here".
Background checks are per "person" not per weapon... so again, no tracking of weapons that way, although buyers could be tracked.

Snitches could be anywhere. Every gun forum probably has several.

+1 What he said. The government is far more likely to know what you have through internet purchases than through dealer records.

I was gonna guess Jocko, but if you're 'fessin' I must be wrong.
Unless you're in cahoots and covering for him...
How would the feds know our internet purchases? HTTPS, when you make a purchase online, is encrypted. Not that they can't crack the coding, but I don't think they're that nosy.
