Love my CM9. Size, weight, concealability, everyhing. That said looking to buy a new gun similar to the CM9. Considering a Beretta Nano. Looking for opinions or other suggestions. $400 price range (I get 1st responder discount), 9 or .380. Gonna be alternate carry, around the house gun for the wife (she can rack the CM).

I don't quite understand the need for another gun like the CM9 except another CM9. A P380 would be nice with your discount, but still above your target price. Above mine, too, so I got a Taurus 738 TCP. It is, IMO, the best 380 other than the P380. And it is priced under $250. It has a light, smooth trigger that is far superior to the LCP and P3AT. It also has a slide stop lever and holds open on last round, which none of the others do except the P380. I got the plain blued one for way under $200, but the brushed SS and the blackened SS models look real sharp and are not a whole lot more. The warranty, BTW, is lifetime and Taurus are A+ on customer service.

With your discount, you might want to consider a Springfield XDs - the little 5+1 hand cannon that is almost the size of the CM9. Lots of great reviews on the gun and they say the recoil is surprizingly manageable.

For a house gun you might consider a CW9. Same ammo same configuration and one extra round for the same price, or less.

If you get the discount......I would look at the S&W Shield, they sell for $300 with L.E. discount. Better than the Nano in my opinion.

Get a CM9 or CW9 if your wife can rack the slide. More reliable in my opinion and it does have the slide lock. My wife has the Nano because she can rack the slide on that one but not my CM9.

I like the Nano but it can tend to be ammo sensitive, it has no slide lock, and if you get a FTE like some of the Nano's have had it needs a slide lock to get the Magazine out when it tries to shove a round in behind the un-ejected casing.

That being said I like the black of the Nano, I can shoot it well, and it comes with 2 mags. If the wife's will run what I think is 100% I'll like it more but not as much as my CM9. the CM9 is lighter to carry also.

Here's my post on the Nano: http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=15483

Just my opinion.

IMO, you have the pocket pistol niche filled.

For just a hair more, a Glock 19 would be a great IWB carry that has a large capacity in a moderate sized weapon that's easily hidden and shoots tremendously well with quick follow up shots. They have proven themselves as one of the best all around pistols ever. She can rack the slide very easily, and the recoil is negligible.

Or you could get RIA 1911 :)

If you can find a shield, that is a great gun for the money.

Bingo. Get yourself a snub SP101 and don't look back. Throw that sucker in a jacket pocket a la Mika holster and you're good to go.

If you don't have a stainless 357 snubbie?
That is a must have part of a Pistolero's arsenal.

Ruger SP101 or my personal favorite S&W 640-1 Centennial.

Yup! .357 will shoot .38 BUT the reverse ain't true - if you buy a 38 you can't shoot .357.

The difference is pressure - .357 is higher and the cartridge is an eighth of an inch longer, so you literally can't shoot a .357 in a .38. But, to reiterate yes you can shoot .38 in a .357.

Actually, S&W had a few .38sp wheel guns that went out that somehow would just allow a .357 round in it, although not made to handle that pressure. Some guy over on the S&W forum a while back.

for the record, my 3" SP101 .357 SA/DA is my every day companion and now my all time favorite handgun. My lust for shooting that gun is what drove me into reloading last February. Yep, it's just five in the wheel, but when you have confidence that the things that need perforating will be perforated, five will probably either do the job, or at least buy you time to start over.

Some guy has one of those on this forum. Me. Sent the j frame back to S&W and had it neutered in less than a week by changing the cylinder. Photo below shows the 357 round on the left and 38 spl round on the right. Finger is holding both rounds flush with the cylinder.

Do like the gun and it fits in a pocket really easy.

Look at;
Ruger SP101 and S&W 640-1.

These are the classic 357 snub nose guns that all else are compared to.
If you're thinking belt carry, and not interested in pocket carry,
a 3" 357 is optimal (SP101 3" w bobbed hammer or S&W 65 3" Military and Police).

If you don't mind carrying a full size combat revolver?
Ruger GP100 or S&W 686.

I prefer pre-lock S&W revolvers myself.
But a quality Ruger would do just fine.

To add to Barth's post, Rugers are built like brick **** houses. They are hard to break, and many things can be done to them, most are stainless steel as well.

I haven't seen a blued SP101 but I guess that they did make some in the early years.

What is really good about them (in the 357 variety) is that when you fire a 357 off at the range, people tend to notice. :D

BTW - it is my favorite revolver with a 3" barrel.

A few years back I never would have said this, but it sounds to me like at that price you might want to look at a used Glock 26, also a 9mm with a larger round capacity. Great alternate carry and around the house pistol.
Now's the perfect time to look at some good used pistols. Some of which are barely broken in. People are selling there safe queens for Christmas cash. I'll be headed off later on today or tomorrow to see what is available.:D

I learned a long time ago, in questionable establishments with girls and poles,
to wrap a bunch of ones with a single one hundred.
The subterfuge doesn't last long.
But for a while it's lots of fun!

I think the next revolver I buy will be a 3" SP101, maybe find some adjustable sights for it. I can't say I've even heard of a blued SP, but I know the GP has blued. If I don't get the SP then I'm thinking the next round gun will be one that starts with a 4 and ends in magnum. I really like the .41 and .44 mags, not so big on .45 colt, but .454 Casull is my baby. I know I'm weird.

I'd recommend a 44 Mag over a 41 Mag.
Much better ammo selection.
Plus the Big Dog will run 44 Specials just like a 357 will run 38s.

Shot my 357 yesterday with the new reload recipe, now my hand hurts.

Young guy at the range shooting a Heritage Rough Rider, let him shoot my Single Six and then the 357 as he expressed an interest in getting a 44 but had never shot a 357 or the 44. After a cylinder full of the 357s, he said he was going to re-think getting a 44 as his hand strength was barely adequate for the 357. My SP101 wears the Hogue full grip when shooting the 357s on an extended basis. LOL

I put a few rounds through the SRH .44 mag yesterday. Then popped a few through the S&W M36 snubbie. Didn't have enough time to flush the cobwebs from the SP101 .357 mag, but the other two satisfied my immdiate need for paper punching. It seems that 19.5 gr of 2400 under a 240 gr lswc is gonna be just about perfect in the SRH.

I do love revolvers. Time to seat some more boolits. :)

TheTman

If it was me, if I wanted an SA only gun, I'd get a 9mm in a Hi-Power, or a clone, insted of a 1911 frame. Just seems to be the natural order of things. Both guns are works of art by John Moses Browning, and each was designed around a specific cartridge. But the Spartan seems to have a very solid reputation for an "affordable' 1911, so I hope you enjoy it very much. A friend had a Spartan on order, and after 2 months waiting he cancelled it and got something else.

According to Dawson Precision, it should be in on December 30th. I'll just go pick it up because I live about 20 minutes away from Dawson Precision, and in fact, I live about 10 minutes away from STI.
