Hey guys!
So I posted in the new member section a week or so ago that I was trying to figure out which model Kahr fit my needs best. Well, I settled on the K9 and after a trip to my LGS today, brought home a used NYPD K9! :D
I picked the one that looked to be in the best shape and am very happy with the look and feel of the pistol. It's pretty dirty inside and out, but I'm sure it will clean up just fine.
I'm looking for suggestions about the best method to clean the exterior metal. I've read so far about using Hoppe's No. 9 or soaking in hot water with some dish soap and scrubbing. Which method do you all prefer? I'm still debating whether I want to polish the slide or not, but would first like to give it a solid cleaning. I plan on putting some wood grips on it as well since the rubber ones are still in decent shape but have seen better days.
I've read some people saying to replace the springs in the gun and am wondering if this is something I should do. If so, which springs other than the recoil spring should I swap out?
Thanks!

BTW according to the serial number sticky, my gun was produced in 1997 and has the stainless frame.

Clean and lube, then shoot it. If it's balky a new recoil spring might be in order. The rest are pretty good to go and shouldn't be a bother.

I'm not a soap and water guy usually. I use the Hoppe's or M Pro 7 or Hoppe's elite (same stuff).

Shoot and see how she runs, then we'll diagnose any balks. I'd gamble you won't have any.

I just bought one of these yesterday. Not too pleased with the shop that sold it to me here in SW MO after they lied to me, but I'll make the best of it.

What kind of lie, a little white lie that never hurt nobody or a major forked tongue bald faced lie?

Your kind of leaving us hanging here.

to swap outany springs except maybe a new set of recoil springs. U canorder them direct from woffs gunssprings cheaper and faster. (gunsprings.com)
Those other springs are just fine, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I serioulsy doubt if even that nypd kahr has had many rounds through it even, if so, fine and dandy, no break in necessary.,

See the kahr tech section for two good stickys

1. Kahr lube chart

#2 propper prepping of ur kahr. Nice gun, I have a used nypd K9 and it has never belched one time.

Well, maybe a little white lie, but enough of one I will never give them any more of my money.

And, here is the crux of it. I see a local ad where this shop says they have K9 trade-ins. I call them and they tell me that they have a bunch of them. I tell them I will not be able to get there for a couple of days and they tell me that that is no problem because they have a good supply. I show up and ask to see the K9 trade-ins. Counter guy says, "I believe this is the last one." I say, "Wow, I called and you guys said you had a bunch." He says, "We sold a bunch this week."

So, I look it over and walk around the store thinking about it. The grip has a cut in it from carrying and some scuffs to boot, so, I ask him again if he was sure that that one was the last one. He told me it was. Another guy has me fill out the 4473 and I casually ask him if that one was the last one. He also told me it was. I pay for the gun, but as I'm driving back to town I keep thinking they were lying to me. I stop by work and decide to call them to ask if they had any of the K9 trade-ins left. Answer: "Yep."

I can not stand to have someone lie to me like that. If they didn't want me to look at any of the other K9s, then just tell me that. But, I figure that it is my money and I should have a choice.

That was a rotten thing to do to sell you that particular K9. It can be cleaned up & maybe polished lightly to make it look better. When I bought my S&W m&p340 recently the shop offered to show me the other 2 they had in the back to choose. The only one with nolock was the one I was looking at so I chose that one. I know you won't give that LGS anymore of your business I hope they figure it out that way they lose.

Bought mine today at the insane local (Ft. Worth TX) gunshow. Bachman pawn and gun had them for $330. There were 13 to make my choice of so I got the pick of the litter. It has (dead) night sights that I will get relamped later but otherwise looks great. Good price too.
